English Actress-Amanobea Doodo Throws Insults at Akan Movies

Veteran Ghanaian actress, Amanobea Doodo, who survived a stroke, has come out to say that Akan movies, popularly known as Kumawood movies, don’t teach moral lessons.

Last year, English actor, Ekow Smith Asante, made disparaging remarks at the film producers and films produced in Kumasi and incurred their wrath. Definitely, Ekow did bite more than he could chew when he said the target market for those ‘inferior’ movies are people in Asankragua, Sefwi Wiaso, ‘Yaw Wiaso’ and other places “who do not know jack about lighting, sound, good acting and other things and they are not ready to know.”

Another English actor, Amanobea was reported by Graphic showbiz this week to have survived a deadly stroke which numbed half of her body, keeping her in bed all this while—-the reason why she has not been seen in movies lately.

Asked whether she would feature in any Akan speaking movie should she be offered a good price, she explained that she would only do so if the storyline is good and she is assured that editing will also be on point.

She continued, “I usually don’t look at the money first before acting. I put myself in the character I play and make sure I execute it well to the understanding of my fans and Ghanaians as a whole.

“It is unfortunate I am sounding this critical but Akan movies can only be sold here in this country and nowhere else. Many of them don’t teach any moral lesson but rather end up confusing patrons,” she said.

Since Amanobea is not in the known, we wish to tell her that Akan movies sell beyond the shores of Ghana more than our English movies. Also, Akan movies teach moral lessons that the English films. When nudity over featured in our movie industry some years back, it was English films that critics pointed accusing fingers at and not the Akan movies.

One development in our movie industry we at GhanaCelebrities.Com don’t seem to understand is why English actors or actress do not criticize their own film industry that is collapsing because of their trite, banal and plagiarized stories which do not reflect our values, culture and believe systems as Ghanaians.

The least chance English film actors get to talk about our movie industry; they take the privilege to insult Kumawood or Akan film industry and its actors. No wonder Kumawood actors, Kwaku Manu and Lil Wayne alleged last year that, our English actors look down upon them – actors in Kumawood.

English filmmakers are now running to Kumawood, so if Amanobea is not ready to go along, then she should consider retiring from acting. Until then…MOTWUM!!
