Half of UK Music Industry Income Now Comes From Online Downloads and Streaming | What are Ghanaian Musicians Doing?

??????????????????????????
Music

Globally, online music downloads and streaming have become the new income source for musicians and nations and yet it seems Ghana is lacking behind.

Without proper Ghanaian online platforms and structures, our music industry will continue slack behind and not be able to cash in on the online music sales boom.

For the first time, it has been published that digital music now accounts for half of the high income the UK is generating from music…

My question is; when will Ghana and Ghanaian musicians also take hold on the new online musical sales boom to start ripping in some real cash?

According to MailOnline;

The rise of downloads and streaming means that digital music now accounts for half of record industry income in the UK for the first time, according to new figures.

Digital revenue increased by 11.9 per cent last year on the back of strong album downloads, with streaming income also rising by 41 per cent, a report by music industry body the BPI has found.

Despite the positive digital figures, revenue from sales of CDs and music videos continued to decline – dropping by 6.4 per cent in 2013 to stand at £365.4million.

THE BIG QUESTION: Would You Date A Divorcee?

black woman

Going back in the days, Divorce was perceived as a negative action and anyone with the term ‘divorcee’ was basically tagged as a failure in one way or the other. Naturally divorce cases were not as common as it is now, probably due to our strong inclination to our culture and religion which frowns on divorce.

Recently, however it is not uncommon to see young men and women coming out of short lived marriages. A marriage, which is meant to be a lifelong contract now has expiration dates. Due to this new social phenomenon, it is not surprising to meet a young man or woman who might not even be 40 yet with the label; a divorcee.

A friend of mine is dating a divorced man with 2 children. She is in her early 20s and her partner is in his early 30s. Initially my friend did not like the idea of the guy being a divorcee. Even though he had the qualities she was looking out for in a man, she feared that there might be some terrible flaw with his character and that might have accounted for his inability to sustain his previous marriage. After a long period of indecisiveness, she finally gave in to date this man because she felt she couldn’t meet any one ‘better’ anyway.

Another guy also told me the story of how he met a young woman in her early 20s. After a few dates, he found out from the girl that she was a divorcee. He told me that he really liked the girl but the fact that she had been married previously was a huge turn off for him. Suffice to say the relationship did not lead anywhere.

The One Way Movies Location in Ghana Has Become Boring

Ako Adjei

Ghana is big enough, isn’t it? Ghana as a country is partitioned into ten (10) different regions which are made up of several towns and cities. You would bear with me that, there are lots of beautiful places in these towns and cities. Talk of nature, landscape, etc.

Let’s all conduct a small exercise here. Reach out for about fifteen (15) English (sometimes Twi as well) Ghanaian movies and watch them all (you need not watch each one of them to the end). If you observe each movie with a critical eye, you will notice something similar in most, if not all the movies.

It has something to do with the location. Most of the movies that are shot here in Ghana have the same scenery. The same streets are noticed every now and then in our movies. If it is not the Tetteh Quarshie interchange, it would probably be the Kwame Nkrumah Roundabout or Circle. If Accra Mall is not featured in the movie, you are sure to see Max Mart Shopping Center. It is either you spot the Ako Adjei interchange or you make out the Accra – Aburi road.

Are these the only sceneries that can appear in Ghanaian movies? Is it that aside Accra, all other places are irrelevant to be featured in movies? Are the producers not willing to spend money to travel to other places to enrich the quality of their movies? These are all questions that ought to be considered.

Charter House Should Reconsider Rebranding The Name ‘GH Entertainment Awards’

Ghana-Entertainment-Awards

Almost 15 years now since Charterhouse started Ghana Music Awards in Ghana, and  as reported some weeks ago, they are about to start nurturing another award scheme by name GH Entertainment Awards.

Known for professionalism, quality and precision in event organization, I have no smidge of dubiety in me that Charterhouse shall grow this new award scheme into a prestigious one. Nonetheless, I feel the name of the award scheme – ‘GH Entertainment Awards,’ should be changed or rebranded.

In my candid opinion, the name sounds or appears too ‘boyish.’ The shorten form of Ghana which many call GH, is not very mature a prefix for such a ‘would-become’ estimable award with an encompassing wide scope – music, movies, radio, TV, fashion, Arts writing, events, sports and many more.

The frivolous and lighter name fragments of Ghana as GH should not be used to brand the award. I see Charterhouse’s use of ‘GH’ in this wise, like trying to formalize a word like ‘am’ (instead of “I am” or the contracted “I’m”) which is perkily used by many for informal writing.

Mr. Beautiful Says He Has Not Regretted Campaigning For Prez Mahama & That He Will Never Apologize

Mr Beautiful
Mr. Beautiful

Actor/Comedian-Mr. Beautiful, real name-Clement Bonney has come out to say, he has not regretted campaigning for President Mahama—and that he will not apologize for playing a key role for the NDC during the 2012 elections.

We don’t think Mr.Beautiful has to apologies for his political affiliation or decisions but to say he has not regretted campaigning for President Mahama, considering the current state of the economy sounds like he doesn’t really care…

With every Ghanaian crying out loud, those who were instrumental in the election of President Mahama and his government must begin to show concern and take the bull by the horn—-even accept they made a mistake if the need be.

line

According to Razz;

Ghanaian actor, Clement Bonney aka Mr. Beautiful, is still seething with anger over the obvious snub from local movie directors, who have refused to use him in any of their movies due to his political affiliation.

In December 2013, Mr. Beautiful accused Kumasi-based movie producers for sideliningg him for openly displaying his political colours and rallying behind the then National Democratic Congress’ Presidential candidate (NDC), John Mahama during the 2012 Presidential elections.
