MOVIE REVIEW: Devil in a Dress…

Devil in a Dress-Ad

The much anticipated movie – ‘Devil In A Dress’ – was premiered two days ago at the Silverbird Cinemas (Accra Mall and Weija). The premiere was greatly attended as several Independence Day holiday celebrants trooped in to watch the movie.

Attendance

Unlike many Ghanaian events that do not start on time, the premiere of ‘Devil In A Dress’ was an exception, as it started exactly at 6:30 pm. All the halls were full way before the first showing started.

Amazed as I was, there were lots of people who still stood outside with their tickets in their hands but couldn’t get inside the packed cinema halls. Such ones had to wait for the second showing. The two showings weren’t enough for the ‘gargantuan’ crowd as it became necessary for the organisers to make way for a third showing.

Acting

Perfectly on point is the right word to use. The lead character, Kafui Danku did marvellous with the role she played. One lady versus several guys, yet she was able to find her way through. She had the woman power and displayed it in a professional way. From start to finish, Kafui was all over in the movie, but interestingly, she wasn’t boring at all. For displaying such a brilliant acting cleverness, I would say Kudos to her.

Another actress who nailed it was Roselyn Ngissah. She has a limited appeatance but I kind of liked the enthusiasm and wildness she displayed. Her choice of words and her acting dexterity demonstrated in the movie made it more side-splitting and fun to watch.

On The Hunt For ‘Mr Right’ – Getting Your Priorities Right

Confused Black Woman

The modern love has two phases; the quick love and the genuine love. When some ladies meet a man riding a car, they quickly fall in love with him. If you love someone, you don’t mind sleeping in a gutter with them (literally) because you know where you’re sleeping now is a starting point in your marital journey but with my new generation sisters, that is a no no. Some ladies went on a hunt for Mr Right and ended up in the ‘Husbandless Union’.

And if you are wondering what happened; either they were hunting in the wrong forest or they were hunting during the wrong season – they did not get their priorities right in the search for their Mr Right. Tell a lady who is attending every single mingle/single summit a nice gentleman is ‘interested’ to meet up with her and the first question she will ask is ‘has he got a car?’/I prefer men who dress nicely in suit in a tie’… Like…what the heck…Is he going for an Annual General Meeting? Is that what they’re taught at that single summit they never miss in their life? What a very myopic way of choosing a Mr Right.

Why ask for things and most of the time, the things some of these women expect the guys to own are things they don’t even have themselves (that is the irritating bit). If in your late 30s to early 40s and you’re still on the lookout for a car owner, you need deliverance, a big one.

Key Ghana Music Awards Rules Have Been Changed Says Mark Okraku Mantey | But Then…

VGMA 2014
VGMA 2014

On Happy Fm’s Showbiz Xtra this morning, Board member of the 2014 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards and Manager of Kumi Guitar-Mark Okraku Mantey was pushed to the wall to explain why his artiste who has had a release in the past has been nominated as ‘New Artiste of the Year’.

Since the question was well targeted and Mark had no escape route, he opened the bag by saying, the organizers of the Ghana Music Awards have changed some key rules of the award scheme—and this includes the description for who qualifies to be nominated in the category, New Artiste of the Year.

Without doubt, no one has any moral or legal right to stop Charter House and the GMA Board from making alterations and adjustments to the rules which determine who qualifies for nominations and who does not.

However, as equity demands; to ensure certainty of rules/laws, any change or alteration of laid down rules and principles must be made known to those concern—and this include the media and the several interest parties of the awards scheme.

Unfortunately, Mark Okraku Mantey wrongly opined that media men should have undertaken the necessary investigative steps to establish that the rules have changed—and that would have ended all the ongoing nomination list controversies.

I will like to point it out to Mark that, there is no principle of Good Faith, Equity, Substantial Justice, Information dissemination whatsoever which precludes any organisation from publicizing changed rules to ensure that those who matter are aware of the changes.

In fact, it’s Charter House’s duty and that of any organisation that alters it rules to make the new set of rules known—by taking reasonable steps to ensure wide dissemination of the new rules.
