Multiple award-winning filmmaker-Shirley Frimpong Manso seems to be always charged—ready to lead the campaign to get the Ghanaian Movie Industry the needed international recognition. It is therefore not of any coincidence that her productions keep winning the awards that matter,in Ghana and beyond.

At yesterday’s Cocktail Party organized by MultiChoice Ghana and the Ministry of Tourism, Art and Culture to congratulate and celebrate the Ghanaian winners and nominees of the 2014 AfricaMagic Viewers’ Choice Awards, Shirley Frimpong Manso spoke about how ‘Contract’, the movie that won 4 awards for Ghana came into being.

She also used the opportunity to appeal for financial support to assist Ghanaian movie productions—saying, she knows that if they get even one percent of the budget Hollywood movies get, they will make it to the Oscars each year.

  1. I’m proud of Sparrow productions they make us Ghanaians proud. She should keep it up and keep flying the Ghanaian flag high. When will they upload the Contract to Sparrow Station? can’t wait to see it

  2. and who says big budgets is what takes movies to the Oscars. you dont go to oscars with half baked stories…Shirley should stick to making movies that are marketable and people like to see and praise her for, her stories are hardly riveting…if we gave her a million dollars she would make a tyler perry styled romantic comedy at best….but do we see tyler winning an oscar soon? PLEASE!!!

  3. In South Africa here, bigger budget movies are made. like Skin, First grader, Viva Riva, how to steal 2 million. this films have gone to major film festivals in Hollywood. Shirley, please sit down. is not big budgets that go to oscars. wif ur small budget movies, you have not not gone to any major film festival before and you are talking of oscars. The Price was a terrible film and that one even won award at AMVCA and you are bragging. Good filmmakers do not care about small time awards. that’s why you did not see Tunde Kelani, Ije, Ties that Binds at these places. Even half of a yellow sun that was made on 8million dollars could not smell any award or major distribution. sit down.

  4. Dallas Buyers Club was done on Little budget… going to the Oscars has nothing to do with how much you’ve spend on your movie, but how, creative the movie.
