All around the world, celebrities lie for several reasons—mostly to hide embarrassing situations or add some sort of undeserving value to their personality.
Throwing in lies here and there is part of the pop culture but it becomes a big deal when the media exposes the person selling the lies, fetching such a celebrity a huge humiliation.
Things have gone bad for some celebrities to the extent that, they had to openly admit their lies and render apology to their fans and all those with interest.
Over the years, some of our Ghanaian Celebrities have found themselves in untangling web of lies, with no room to escape or defend their actions.
Let’s look at some of the obvious lies as well as the hidden ones which were exposed…
- Nadia Buari’s Oscar De la Renta dress
In March 2011, Ghanaian actress-Nadia Buari appeared at the 2011 Pan-African Film Festival which was held in Los Angeles, California and wore a stunning gown which she claimed to be an Oscar de la Renta. But it turned out to be a “big fat lie”.
GhanaCelebrities.Com at the time phoned Oscar de la Renta who said, they had not designed any dress like what Nadia wore. It emerged that, Nadia Buari’s dress was from designer called “Alyce Black Label” in New York with the price being $328.00.
Things got nasty and embarrassing to the extent that Nadia Buari’s US based PR firm dropped her, for lying to them based on which they issued a press release that Nadia had worn the expensive Oscar de la Renta dress to the film festival—when in fact that was not the case.
- Yvonne Nelson 2250 Euros Dress for a Movie Premiere
Just like Nadia Buari who was looking to score some high status for claiming she was wearing a top designer dress when she was not, Yvonne Nelson attended a movie premiere (Princess Bride) in 2010 in Accra and she told journalists that what she was wearing cost £2250…
Though most of us knew she was lying (remember this is 2010 when Yvonne Nelson was more of a hustler), her cover was blown when it emerged few days later that, the actress owed school fees of 5,000 GHS.
The question at the time was; how can you spend £2250 Euros for a movie premiere dress when your fees are in arrears, with which a little fraction would have paid the fees. And how much was she even paid to be in the film, that she was spending this amount just for the premiere…
- Samini’s Double Marriage Wahala
In February 2010, Ghanaian musician-Samini told a big lie to a London based Ghanaian woman- Mercy Geker who he had a baby with—and they two got engaged.
Soon after GhanaCelebrities.Com broke the news of Samini’s engagement in London, we were contacted by a woman in Canada who claimed to have been already engaged to Samini.
Unknowing to Mercy Geker and the other woman in Canada, Samini was two-timing them and had successfully engaged both of them…Badboy things!
The next few weeks was full of stories in relation to Samini’s double engagement and swiftly, Mercy Geker who felt betrayed called for divorce, a price Samini had to pay for his lies which were exposed by the media.
- Reggie Rockstone’s Lies about Eazzy & Keitta Big Brother Agreement
In an article I wrote on Eazzy and Big Brother Stargame, I strongly stated that Eazzy was used or exploited by certain individuals around her to go into the Big Brother Stargame for the sole benefit of Keitta, who was desperately looking for a career as a model.
The article received several responses including a reaction from Reggie Rockstone, the senior brother of Keitta. Both on Twitter and on Peace FM (I was on Peace Fm Entertainment Review with Reggie Rockstone via phone), Reggie Rockstone tried extensively hard to discredit my reasons in the face of all the developments.
Reggie debunked my piece by saying that, no one used or exploited Eazzy and if I care to know, he made sure that Eazzy and Keitta signed an agreement which stated, inter alia, that whoever wins the Big Brother grand prize will have to give the other a percentage.
Eventually, Eazzy came out of the Big Brother house and at her press conference, she was asked “Did you enter into any agreement with Reggie Rockstone or did you and Keita have a meeting with him about sharing winnings in percentages”.
Eazzy answered by saying, “No, we had no such agreement that I remember”.
At this point, you can imagine Reggie’s face!
- Yvonne Okoro’s Replica Sass & Bide dress
Actress-Yvonne Okoro attended Africa Magic 10th Anniversary Party/2014 AMVCA Nominees Announcement at the Landmark Village, Victoria Island in Lagos on 5th December 2013 wearing a dress she sort of claimed to be a designer from Australian womenswear brand-Sass & Bide-which have in the past been worn by Beyonce, Kim Kardashian and others.
After looking close at what Yvonne Okoro was wearing and the original from Sass & Bide, it emerged that Yvonne Okoro was trying to score a status appeal—what she was wearing was a replica…

- Keitta & Eazzy Big Brother We Did Not BANG Claim
After all of us saw various videos and photos of Eazzy and Keitta banging on live TV, the two came out of the Big Brother house to say; they were just making out. We cannot establish if they actually banged or not, but we know they are not telling us the truth…
- Efya Weed Smoking Allegation
In February, 2012, Ghanaian singer-Efya took over the headlines with allegations coming from all corners that she smokes weed.
Efya came out to debunk the allegations but added that, she only smokes cigarettes. And we think that is a big lie…
- Nasara Phone Stealing Allegation
Nasara won Ghana’s Most Beautiful in 2009 and represented Ghana at Miss Earth 2010. While on this official assignment, it was alleged that Nasara stole a mobile phone belonging to Miss UK.
When the items got missing at where the beauty queens were being housed – an opportunity was given to anybody who might have mistakenly taken the items to own up to avoid disgrace and embarrassment that would come with it. Even though our beauty queen had the items, she did not heed to this advice.
Later, when the mobile number of Miss UK was dialled, the said missing phone was heard ringing in the bag of our Ghana’s Most Beautiful queen Nasara including the makeup kit. In a brief discussion with her manager, Chief Hafiz of Tarch House production, he confirmed the rumour to be true and that he had travelled to the UK after the incident to sort things out and ended up spending 250,000 dollars on the case to avoid further embarrassment
Nasara claims she did not steal the phone but we think otherwise…
- Raquel’s No Panties FREE Show
Ghanaian singer-Raquel made headlines in January, 2012 when photos of her ‘coochie’ took over the internet.
The ludicrousness of what happened according to Raquel was that; she forgot her panties and her dress at home.
I wrote at the time that; “Looking at the sequential manner in which events unfolded, it is highly infinitesimal that Raquel in anyway forgot her dear panties. If you believe she did not forget her panties as I do, then what motivated her to jeopardise her personage as an African woman who happens to be a rising entertainer this way?
Spare me the madness of fashion since I will not spend even a worthless coin buying the argument that, it is fashion and huge numbers of women step out each day without panties. I do not know any of such women but if you are one, put your hands up. If this is fashion to some women, then I guess these women need urgent mental evaluation or a divine intervention of a non-terrestrial God.
If a matured woman like Raquel has no amount of decency and morality left in her thinking faculty, then why should anyone waste his precious time to forcefully inject some sort of unfounded morality into others to help redeem this woman from a well deserving shame that she has willingly brought upon herself?”

Whats wrong with wearing $300 dress? We all know you can afford most of the designers, nothing wrong with that. I bet all the dresses Lupita wore this award season were given to her for free, you cant compare yourself to them.
