I Am Tired of Being a Ghanaian…

A Ghana supporter arrives at Gold Coast bar-restaurant in Brixton, south London.

Dear GhanaCelebrities,

I am 31 years old and I’ve always been proud to be a Ghanaian—until the last few weeks. At the moment, I feel being a Ghanaian is a curse and I wish I can relocate or just be offered an alternative.

I’ve come to realize that there, there is no political saviour out there—be it NPP or NDC. All the political parties are the same and will continue to make living conditions worse for ordinary citizens like me.

After 57 years of Independence, I cannot go a week without electricity being cut off and I do not want to talk about water—since I do not remember the last time I even opened the tap.

I have two degrees to my name as a woman (a first degree and a masters degree) but if I have to tell you about what I had to do to get a job as bank cashier, you will fall dead.

I hope to settle down sometimes soon with my boyfriend and have a home, but this seems like too big a dream since affording 3 square meals after my travel cost has become a struggle. And my boyfriend cannot even find a decent job.

As an individual, I have done all I can and ready to do all I could just for a good standard of living but without a good government in place, I don’t think this will ever happen—remember I am 31 and I don’t even know when things will change, considering the current state of the nation-Ghana.

Is this the same Ghana we always sung about—God bless our homeland Ghana?

I go to sleep each day not knowing if I will wake up to see a better Ghana or the same Ghana but consistently, it has always been the latter.

BG: Is This Not Beautiful? Alicia Keys and Husband Swizz Beatz Kiss and Cuddle on Holiday With Swizz’s Ex-wife Mashonda

Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz with ex-wife Mashonda

From BeyondGossip.Com

Surely Mashonda really did mean it when she said back in 2011 that she has learned to forgive—because of her son…

Alicia Keys and her husband Swizz Beatz kissed on the beach while on holiday at Nikki Beach Resort in St Barts with the producer’s former wife Mashonda Tifrere just sitting next to them enjoying quality time with her and Swizz Beatz’s son Kasseem Dean Jr.

If you remember, Swizz and Mashonda endured a bitter split as she reeled from the news of her husband moving onto Alicia Keys, who was forced to defend herself from ‘homewrecker’ claims.

Time really heals…

Malaysia Prime Minister Has Announced That Flight MH370 ‘CRASHED in South Indian Ocean’

Missing Flight

After more than two weeks of search with in and out hopes, relatives of passengers and crew have been informed of the ‘heartbreaking’ news that Flight MH370 ended in the southern Indian Ocean, the Malaysian Prime Minister has announced.

It is shocking and beyond mysterious that in this age of technological advancement and computer power, a big craft like a commercial plane with 239 people can disappear or fall into the Indian Ocean without any trace…

Our hearts go to the family and loved ones…

According to the BBC;

Malaysia’s prime minister has announced that missing flight MH370 crashed in the southern Indian Ocean.

Najib Razak said this was the conclusion of fresh analysis of satellite data tracking the flight.

Malaysia Airlines had told the families of the 239 people on board, he said.

Earlier the BBC saw a text message sent to families by the airline saying it had to be assumed “beyond reasonable doubt” that the plane was lost and there were no survivors.

Flight MH370 disappeared after taking off on 8 March from Kuala Lumpur.

The announcement by PM Najib Razak, at a late-night news conference, came on the fifth day of an international search effort in the southern Indian Ocean.

Satisfaction Not Guaranteed: It’s Not About Physical Beauty, Brains Or Personality!

Couple working out

Often hear people say – ’I prefer brains to looks’ and others will argue that because they’re not blessed with good looks, they prefer someone with good looks to give them beautiful children. ‘Ideally’, one would say brains should have prominence over beauty. Even with a person’s personality, you know a person before their personality unfolds and what draws you to the person in the first place?

Someone would prefer having beautiful and good looking appearance and feel they are very lucky (and truthfully, they’re lucky), because one is attracted easily to beautiful things. On the other hand, someone would prefer having brains. Majority of people also believe that what one lacks in ‘brains’ is compensated for in looks and vice versa, so bottom line is, one cannot have it all (I believe they’re the people who don’t go out and interact with people enough). Are we ever satisfied with chasing brains, the aesthetics or people’s personality?

In this day and age, girls/boys are dressing provocatively, videotaping themselves and taking semi-nude photos to the opposite sex for favours because that is what is taking them ‘far’. How then can brains be more prominent these days? A man in a position like that will lose half of his possessions before inviting his brains into the picture. People associate success with someone perceived to be ‘brainy’, but commonly, many people are successful not because of their brains, rather because of what they possess – physically.

Ghana Actors Guild President Still Not Fit to Go to Office – His Vice Alleged to Have Resigned

Mr. Odoi Mensah
Mr. Odoi Mensah

Ghana Actors Guild President GAG, Mr. Odoi Mensah, was rushed to the hospital some weeks back for an emergency operation on him.

GhanaCelebrities.Com broke the news of Mr. Odoi’s illness on 4th March, 2014. We gathered from one industry person (preferred to remain anonymous) that Mr. Odoi was diagnosed of appendicitis; a disease he has lived with all these years but his doctors never detected until this time round when the disease ‘struck’ him hard and he had to be rushed to the hospital. Our source also disclosed that Mr. Odoi had gone through a successful surgical operation.

Following up on the story, GhanaCelebrities.Com contacted Mr. Odoi to find out his current state of health. Fortunately, he picked and told us “I’ve been discharged but I’m currently in the house. My doctor has advised I stay at home for sometime before resuming work. I can’t tell exactly when I shall be resuming work. I thank you for your concern my son.”

Whilst Mr. Odoi was hospitalized, GhanaCelebrities.Com visited the guild’s office to speak to its Vice President, Rev. Eddie Coffie, on a story we needed clarity but the office was locked. A source around told us he learnt the Vice of the guild, Mr. Coffie, had resigned from the guild.

THE DEBATE AGAIN: Do You Agree Ghana Music Award Should Emboss Winners’ Names On The Plaques?

Ghana Music Awards
Ghana Music Awards

I strongly believe I’m not the first person to start his discussion and I will not be the last. I know this is not the first time this topic is being brought on the tables for discussion.

Nonetheless, I don’t think it’s a piffling issue that should be scorned simply because some people brought it up in the past but opinions failed to converge for the way forward. Embossing a person’s name on an award’s plaque or trophy to an awardee or honoree is very crucial but we seem to have waved off it in Ghana Music Awards (GMA).

One of three reasons why embossing an awardee or honoree’s name on a plaque or trophy is the fact that it ensures: readily identification, forestalls doubt and makes room for easy reference.

There’s some Schools of Thought that holds the opinion that embossing names of awardees, winners, or honorees on an award’s plaques or trophies is not feasible because you can’t tell who will win on the actual day.

Granted that is the excuse, an alternative is that a miniature plaque or trophy could be presented to the awardee or honoree on stage on the actual award night after which the embossed ones, later presented to the winners. BET Awards uses this alternative.

When we all attended school and graduated, we were awarded certificates. On the certificates were our names. It was not only the name of the school that we attended which was on the certificate. This is because we attend schools individually and toil individually to merit the certificates; hence, our individual names on the awarded certificates.

We all have our names on national IDs, voting IDs, Birth Certificates, passports, driver’s license, etc. Almost all important and tangible items about humans have our names on it. I don’t concur with Charterhouse giving plaques to winners of GMA without the winners’ names on them.
