MUST READ: Instagram, a World without Decency…

Instagram User
Instagram User

For some weird reasons which do not necessary bring any sort of financial gains, many social media users are keen on rallying as much followers as they can. And majority of these people will never be able to make money from these followers or build any real friendships with them but I guess it is the numbers that matter…

With an Instagram app on almost every social media users’ phone,  the competition for more followers based on what we post has become interesting—with many women downgrading the high standard of decency they once held, to be able post what will attract followers.

If you are reading this, take a quick trip through the Instagram photos of some of your favourite celebrities and friends (non-celebrities) and I am certain you will be shocked by the level of accepted nakedness on this platform.

What started with women posing with their protruding backsides and chest has literally turn into taking off the cloth for the camera. And the purpose is; to just get as many likes and followers as possible.

Before writing this piece, I took a long walk through the world of Instagram and couldn’t close my mouth going through some of the photos women cheerfully post, putting the most private parts of their bodies on full display just to score some virtual points.

When Instagram kicked in, it triggered an uprising of so called models with every young pretty woman posing for the camera but it seems things have taken a new turn as some of these women have found more strength in their raw bodies.

Gradually, the internet is succeeding in creating the borderless world we so much want, connecting each and every person to one another—but we forget that, what we post via the internet can come back to haunt us.

According to Graphic Showbiz;

Agya Koo may be considering quitting acting soon to concentrate on his music career.

The popular actor told Showbiz last Monday, “It is said that you don’t live at a place for long if that place is likely to bring you disgrace. That is why I have planned to quit acting and concentrate on my music career if the producers continue to sideline me.”

He said that it had become necessary for him to take that step because some producers of Akan speaking movies have ganged up against him seeking to forcefully oust him from the business.

There Shall Be Major Reforms/Reviews/Changes in VGMA Come Next Year – 2015

VGMA 2014
VGMA 2014

Despite all the critiques at this year’s VGMA nomination list with some pundits pointing at evidence to disqualify some artistes or songs, the board has concluded that they shall not review the nomination list; yet, they shall make changes in the award scheme come 2015.

On Monday 31st March, 2014 GhanaCelebrities.Com got in touch with Nii Ayitey Hammond who is the Chairman of the VGMA Board and asked him if the board will still review the nomination list.

In his own words, he opined “as I speak with you, the board has not decided to review the nomination list; so that is what we stand by” Mr. Hammond said. According to Mr. Hammond “so far none of the evidence brought before the board are strong enough to make us disqualify any artiste or song in the nomination list.

All that they have said or presented represents opinions; their opinions for that matter. The board does not deal with opinions but facts. Real facts! Any person who presents real facts shall be considered by the board.”

On Tuesday 1st April, 2014 when GhanaCelebrities.Com’s story was reviewed on Neat 100.9 fm’s ‘Entertainment Ghana,’ hosted by Kwasi Aboagye, PRO of Charterhouse confirmed GhanaCelebrities.Com’s earlier publication on Monday. Ending, George assured “Kwasi, next year, there will be major reforms in VGMA. There will be definitely major changes next year.”

On Wednesday 2nd April, 2014, when the same story was discussed on Channel R’s ‘205 Total Entertainment,’ this time round, board chairman, Mr. Hammond confirmed the board wont review the nomination list – 2014, but, “we shall review things in the VGMA come next year.”

Maricruz: Should Kumawood Continue Like This…?

Mariruz
Mariruz

Guess what! Another Kumawood movie has been released and the title is ‘Maricruz’. If you are probably in Ghana and you are a fan of Mexican soap operas, you would know where the name Maricruz comes from.

‘Corazon Indomable’, popularly known in Ghana as ‘Wild at Heart’, is a Mexican telenovela which is aired on UTV. Maricruz is just a character in the telenovela whose name is even mentioned more than the original name of the soap opera itself. It baffles my mind how ‘Wild at Heart’ has gained rapid popularity in Ghana within a short period of time.

Although I know Kumawood producers are fond of riding at the back of popular incidents to produce movies, I never thought it would come to a time when they will use the name of a famous character in a soap opera to ‘shoot’ a movie. I still can remember movies like Tonga, Oh Vera, AyariCough, Asamoah Gyan, Yebe Dii Keke, and many other popular terms that popped-up in the country sometime ago.

What are producers in Kumawood not doing right? Should they always produce movies out of popular terms that emerge in the country? I can confidently say these producers do not learn at all. Or should I say they do not know jack about film-making? Probably yes.

The level of creativity exhibited by some of them is nothing to write home about. More often than not, the storylines to such movies revolve around the incident that brought about the term. No new twists are added to the original storylines.

I perfectly understand that, most Kumawood movies are comedy. Does that mean film-makers should not reason, learn, and be creative enough to put together an original comic movie? Should they always depend on popular terms before they can churn out movies? These are all questions that need serious answers. It would not be surprising to hear that such producers have stopped producing movies, simply because new catchy terms are not popping up in the system. How funny that would be.
