READERS’ MAIL: Why the Female Attacks? Daddy Lumba, Bright of BukBak Fame, Nana Acheampong, Nana Boroo & Others Have all Changed in Complexion…

Bright of Buk Bak fame
Bright of Buk Bak fame

As a Ghanaian entertainment industry person, I welcome all the talks and advocacy to bring the increasing act of bleaching some of our entertainers have found faith in under control, since skin bleaching/lightening has vast negative consequences.

But I am particular worried about the fact only the female entertainers/celebrities are being watched and attacked for the drastic change in their complexion while the men who seem to be altering their complexion are left  untouched.

I was at the recent funeral of the late Ronnie Coaches of BukBak fame which was attended by Bright—and shockingly, the complexion of Bright had taken a different dimension. Many of my media friends who were at the funeral whispered about the complexion change which was marked with dark knuckles but as usual, no one raised this issue in the media.

Apart from my recent disappointing sighting of Bright, Daddy Lumba, Nana Acheampong, Nana Boroo and several other male Ghanaian entertainers have over the years changed from their usual complexion—and yet, no one seems to question them simply because they are probably men.

Bleaching is not a gender disease, rather a human problem which must be tackled from all corners. The men must be rebuked with the same anger we descend on the women or else, we will not be able to genuinely uproot this widespread practice from our society.

The fact is; several Ghanaian male and female entertainers are bleaching/lightening up, and not only the women. The last time I checked from the market, Skin Light, Fair and White, Bio Claire, Pro Clair, Tura and others were in shortage when only men had been to the market.

  1. It’s funny hw  the topic is  on bleaching and how it’s a human problem but I also noticed your advertising a bleaching  product  right below your post. (Antorini organics)

    • Point of correction he is not advertising any product, that only happens when ” YOU” or someone using your computer/ or smartphone to visit one of the bleaching websites so get your facts right and don’t be ignorant

  2. I think when it comes to the male skin bleaching, Daddy Lumba is the worse of them all. Not only does his face look painfully sore, it is covered with black spots. Not to mention the black knuckles. It is laughable and sad to think that his friends and family are not honest to tell him how ridiculous he looks.

  3. It gets worse when it’s a guy.why can’t we accept our skin color just as we were given?i grew up in a not soooo posh neighborhood in Kumasi bleaching was sooo “normal” especially when a woman delivers and it’s confined in the house to come out after 40days,they come out looking like micheal Jackson and babies are sucking from mothers bleached nipples.growing up in .fanti new town it was allowed infact if you were nt bleaching you would be the odd one.this is not to disrespect F.N.T girls cos some of us turned out soooo well.we see the after effect of the bleachers “nanso w) b3 n all over.

  4. Some will still go ahead and bleach. because nobody wants to be called black no more. lets not forget black is beautiful. as black people our idea of beauty is that you have to be light brown (skin), not dark. some people even bleach thier kids at a very young age, because their dark. Its c***y since we do have the best skin in the world i guess some people just have low self esteem Its just nasty seeing people with Semi Orange face,Dark Neck, black Knuckles and toes like Baboon, Nasty!! I wanna tell all those people that they are a disgrace to the black race. Be black, Be proud, Black is Beautiful. It’s about time Black people appreciate their God given Complexion and stop this colonial mentality r*****h. Bleaching doesn’t even make them look prettier.
