Are You Getting Married to Solve All Your Problems?

Love

I have countless friends who have gotten married for genuine reasons. A good number of them also have an outstanding reason and most of those reasons are highly financial.

However, you cannot blame them. There are many women who are conditioned or raised to believe marriage will end a lot of their financial problems or offer them some instant glorious happiness.

So in effect, many young women grow up glorifying marriage in their minds and looking for the quickest opportunity to get married and live that fairy tale life. It does not matter if the man they are marrying is the right man for them, it doesn’t matter if he treats them right or if he is interested in their mutual growth as a facet of society, it doesn’t matter if he will be a good father.

As long as he is marrying them that is all there is to think about. They will marry him! Other important factors will be dealt with latter.

I dare say this is even one of the main reasons why many young marriages are breaking up. Young women have been raised to seek marriage at all cost, forget happiness and personal ambitions, marriage is the ultimate. When she gets married, she has arrived and is above any other young woman who is not married.

Is It Wrong for Gospel Musicians to Employ Negative Publicity Stunts/Gimmicks?

Joyce-Blessing-

Negative publicity which is a employed to obtain attention by most artistes in the secular world of entertainment is creeping slowly into the gospel music industry in Ghana.

First, there’s no rule as to which form publicity should take. However, in whatever form it takes, it can assume one of two forms, thus, negative or positive. Though datable, from showbiz perspective, positive publicity is the traditional way of informing or getting the fans attention to an artiste’s works through; radios, prints, posters, televisions, websites and now social media.

Negative publicity on the other hand, is a form of attracting the audience attention and sentiments to an artiste’s work but as the name suggests, with a negative tone. For about 5 years now, negative publicity seems to be creeping into our gospel music industry.

For instance, in 2011, gospel musician Philipa Baafi who had bore triplets was reported to have lost her three children. The story came with mixed feelings of dubiety. I recall all attempts by then entertainment presenter, Agyemang Prempeh, of Channel R’s ‘205 Total Entertainment,’ to get Philipa Baafi to either confirm or deny the story proved otiose.

Later, the ostensible picture of the story was undraped and what was uncovered was that, she was coming out with a new album. As to whether Philipa Baafi’s three babies died or not, the negative publicity got her fans attention, favour and ushered her then album into the market.

In 2012, another gospel musician whose story had a negative publicity tone is Celestine Donkor. On various websites, social networks and print media was a story of her with pictures of two female prison wardens – they handcuffed her.

Women And Their Double Standard: #Team My Style Rocks…

black woman

A lady friend to you is a friendly friend, an unfriendly friend or a very friendly enemy. Majority of women have turned themselves into busy bodies bashing their fellow woman because of one thing or the other.

A lady with her face full of pancake with all the ‘fake’ trimmings will bash another lady whose pancake is not even half-thick of what she has on her face and she’ll point a finger and say ‘…..and this one too a man will go and chase her – fake from head to toe’ – sometimes you have the urge to scream ‘but you look faker than her’; but just shrug it off as a double standard thing.

I don’t know when teams were formed for women with natural hair, women who do/don’t use make-up, weave and then the latest #team short hair rocks#. The ‘team’ that I find quite annoying are the ‘natural hair/short hair rocks’. These are women who either in their weave-on journey, encountered Mr bald patches along the way and had no option than to chop the little hair on their head Or they run out of ‘sponsors’ to buy them their expensive weaves or the economy is affecting their pockets badly and decided to call it a day.

These particular women turn around and bash women with weaves like they’re using their money to ‘beautify’ themselves. The ones with the short natural hair that just refuses to grow (and these ladies don’t want to accept that fact that they don’t have long hair in their genes) will make so much noise that when you cut your hair, they ask why!

Enough of The Love And Comic Movies!

Yvonne Nelson and John Dumelo

Ghallywood/Ghollywood and Kumawood are the two main movie industries in Ghana at the moment. One cannot disprove the fact that producers within these two industries are doing well. In the course of time, some experienced producers churn out movies that are well structured and interesting to watch.  At other times, some of these movies are just as bad as garbage.

There seems to be a clear-cut distinction between these two movie industries. While Ghollywood pays much attention to love, Kumawood on the other hand focuses mainly on comedy. It becomes mundane when a particular approach is used over and over again without employing new techniques.

Ghollywood is Synonymous With ‘Love’

A critical observation of Ghollywood movies will draw ones attention to nothing but love. Over countless movies that I have watched from this industry all focus on love, or better still romance. Romantic movies often place emphasis on passion, emotion, and the affection two lovers (mainly the main characters) display to each other. Just like in our everyday love life that one goes through dating, courtship, and marries in the end, so it is with love movies.

Take time and watch most Ghollywood movies for yourself. Almost, if not all, fall into the category of romance. The ever one-way of telling such stories in movies is increasing rapidly. If a person does not fight another person because the first has snatched the lover, then it’s probably going to be a family opposing the marriage of two lovers. Without doubt, Ghollywood film-makers have proven to be love experts. Take them to that field, and they will surely beat you to that.

Kumawood and Its Obsession for Comedy

Let’s direct our attention to the ‘almighty’ Kumawood. How can you possibly watch a Kumawood movie and not laugh? The titles of the movies themselves can make you laugh your heart out. One movie title in itself is a complete sentence, if not a paragraph.

Pioneers of the Akan-speaking movies like Agya Koo are people who started their careers as comedians. The act of creating humour was however utilized in their movies. This course has repetitively gone up till this day. With the introduction of some acts like Kwaku Manu and Lil Win, production of comic movies has increased tremendously.

THE BIG QUESTION: The Art of Relationship Jealousy, Who Wears the Crown? The Man or the Woman?

Jealousy
Jealousy

The above screenshot was shared by a friend on facebook and it could be that it is not from a real life event—probably created for a laugh but it carries a certain message worth a discussion.

The emotional state of jealousy does not only rise out of negative thoughts but also strong feelings of insecurity, fear, and anxiety as to the propensity to loss something valuable—in this case personal relationship or connection.

Both men and women have the propensity to be jealous because no sex is jealous-proof but since jealous rides on emotional state and effectively operates when the emotion is fragile, I believe women are more jealous compared to men when it comes to relationships.

But mostly, the art of jealousy of a woman is justifiable or certain factors trigger that—even if these factors are far from the assumptions upon which the jealousy is formed.
