P-Square ‘Breakup’-My Thoughts…

P-Square
P-Square

For a few days now, news of versatile music duo P-Square (Peter Okoye and Paul Okoye) breaking up has been making quick and disturbing rounds…Ironically, just a few days ago I was discussing D-Banj and Don Jazzy’s infamous split with a Nigerian friend. Human beings are naturally territorial—greedy and possessive. But sometimes we cannot do it alone, we need that magic of two heads and that is what the success of most music duos/ groups have been based on.

When D-Banj was at his peak with Don Jazzy, they virtually owned the African music scene, making hits, performing on stages across Africa and breaking banks. But they let it get to their heads; they started thinking they were too much to be pulled down so they started playing with their heavy weight position in the industry. They thought they could never be replaced.

So after many unnecessary misunderstandings which they were supposed to solve and continue working together, they decided to split. What has become of D-Banj today? When was the last hit? Is he still the biggest artiste in Africa? They forgot talented young boys like Wizkid, Davido, Olamide and more were waiting for their 15 minutes to take over.

In Ghana, let us not forget Wutah and Praye. The question is; who and what at all gets into their minds to split up just when things are going well? Only to end up struggling for one single hit…That’s it for that recap, lest I digress; let’s go back to P-Square.

Embossing VGMA winners’ Names on Plaques is Not Necessary-Charterhouse PRO

VGMA 2014
VGMA 2014

Though many art critics in Ghana have called on the organizers of Vodafone Ghana Music Award VGMA to consider embossing the names of the scheme’s winners on the plaques or statuettes, the PRO of Charterhouse (organizers of VGMA), Mr. George Nii Armah Quaye, thinks otherwise.

Embossing a person’s name on an award’s plaque or trophy to an awardee or honouree is very important but Charterhouse or the Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) Board seems to have waved it off – considers it as a piffling issue.

One of three reasons why embossing an awardee or honouree’s name on a plaque or trophy is the fact that it ensures: readily identification, forestalls doubt and makes room for easy reference. But, Mr. Quaye begs to differ.

Speaking on Channel R’s 205 Total Entertainment, host of the programme asked Mr. Quaye what Charterhouse has to say with respect to those who are calling on them to emboss winners of the award scheme on the plaques. Mr. Quaye who reacted partly in the first and second person pronounce, explained.

What difference will it make to award plaque I (as in the musicians or winners) have won? If your name is not on the plaques does it change the state that it’s not yours? Does it change the fact that you won it?

When you got the award, all the media were there so does it change the state that you won it? So without your name, it does not change the fact that the award was yours. We still know those who won!” The host, Christian Agyei Frimpong, suggested to Mr. Quaye that it is necessary and can be done.

“It is possible. It’s done in the UEFA champion tournaments. About some 5 minutes for the game to end, the organizers determine the winners and emboss their names on the plaques for the winners – players” Christian Agyei Frimpong revealed.

First of all, who in his right mind will have 3 years online relationship with a woman that he has never met? Despite the fact that this man was deceived, he had no right to pull a gun and kill the woman. Nothing really is what it seems online—was he not told that?

Just a few weeks to the much-anticipated FIFA World Cup in Brazil, it was expected that the talk would focus on how prepared the national team, Black Stars are, as they face fierce competition in a group regarded as the group of death; instead, the debate has hinged on whether it is appropriate for the players to take their wives to their camp.

Well, some of the players are married and if the green light is given; their wives will be in Brazil. Others are divorced and if they make the cut, we wonder who they will present in camp as their companions. For other players, they are unmarried and have not publicly declared who their girlfriends are, so it will be tricky on who they take to camp as their girlfriends.

Razz Newspaper has compiled the list of footballers wives, not girlfriends, legally-wedded wives who may take part in the Mundial come June-July 2014;

Abena & Kwadjo Asamoah

The utility player for the Black Stars is married to Abena Asamoah and the couple has a cute baby boy, Jason. If approval is granted, Abena will surely be in Brazil, cheering his husband on and off the pitch.

Omega & Samuel Inkoom

Samuel Inkoom’s wife loves the cameras as she doesn’t miss the chance to splatter her photos on instagram and she won’t miss the opportunity to go to Brazil if authorization is given. Omega and Samuel Inkoom have three adorable kids,– Samuelina, Samuel Jnr and newly born Shawne.

GUBA Foundation Launches Fourth Autism Seminar

GUBA Foundation

On Saturday 17th May 2014, the GUBA Foundation will be hosting its fourth autism awareness seminar at the Resource for London Centre, 356 Holloway Road, London N7 6PA.

The seminar which is free to attend, promises a platform for Service Providers such as Child behaviour and development specialists, to impart knowledge and offer support to autistic families. Attendees also get the opportunity to communicate, share experiences and learn practical solutions to everyday problems in regards to autism.

Previous seminars have contributed positively towards raising awareness about the prevalence of autism within the African community; in turn, helped to alleviate several misconceptions about autism. It has also brought autistic families together, offered financial and emotional support for struggling families.

Autism affects one in every 100 people in the UK. Over 100,000 people living with this condition come from Black or Ethnic Minority (BME) communities. Despite this substantial figure, people from the BME community are typically diagnosed later than their Caucasian counterparts. One of the core aims of this upcoming seminar is to educate the BME community to help eradicate the stigma and misconceptions about autism; as it often hinders efforts to manage autistic people effectively within the community.
