Journalists in Ghana have been censored over the years for unprofessionalism, but, the nations funded newspaper, Daily Graphic, can boast of a number of professional young and old journalists.

However, a recent advert placed in the said newspaper caught the attention and wrath of Ghana’s Deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Madam Dzifa Gomashie.

Registering her displeasure at the advert, read what the Deputy Minister posted on her Facebook wall today, 19th May, 2014 (unedited):

line-short

Daily Graphic, Thursday, May 15, 2014 Pg 42 has an advert of GIHOC. I conjecture that the person who approved the ad, the person behind the camera, the person who approved to pay for the ad are all men…I disapprove of this advert!

Daily Graphic, Monday, May 12, 2014. Pg 44 “Crack the whip on erring media houses”. ..Nana Odeasempa Antwi Obugyei of Mampong…Nana mo ne kasa

The Ghanaian Times, Saturday, May 17, 2014 front page “Where are the lights….in the Accra-Nsawam night train?” …and the Minister for Transport’s photo accompanied the story….that is why we are where we are.

Before this gets to the HM…as with your company, are there people who are payed to fix these problems. Too much is expected of leadership and nothing, but remuneration and complaints are expected of the rest. As you are a Ghanaian citizen by divine choice, do your bit to save mother Ghana! One Love!

Having vented her dictum, she tagged it to a number of journalists below:

Ps…Nhyira Addo, Lys Hayfron Asare, Franklin Cudjoe, Nana Fredua-Agyeman Ofori-Atta, Gifty Naana Dansoa, Etsey Freshie Atisu, Solomon Ofori, Edem Ashigbi my friends in the inky fraternity…hellooooo.

Reacting to the minister’s post, the Editor-in-Chief of Graphic Communication Group Ltd, Mr. Edem Ashigbi came out to notify the public that “Thanks for the feedback we have spoken to the agency & the client the ad has been pull out in the Daily Graphic.”

Do you think being a revered person who also works for the government, it is appropriate for the Deputy Minister to have posted her chilly sentiments on social media? Or she should have visited the office of Daily Graphic and draw their attention to her observation? Share a though if you have one. Until then…MOTWUM!!
