Ghana Vrs Portugal | All You Need to Know About Ghana’s Next World Cup Opponent-Portugal

Portugal-Team-Squad-for-2014-World-Cup

For 90 minutes on Sunday night, all Ghanaians were fans of the Portuguese national side. They were playing the USA, and for Ghana to have any chance of making it out of group G, Portugal had to win.

They couldn’t quite manage it, but the 95th minute equaliser and the 2-2 draw gave Ghana a small lifeline, and on Thursday the two will lock horns to determine who qualifies, hopefully with a little help from Germany.

‘A Selecao’, or ‘The Selection’ is how the Portuguese national team is known. Currently ranked no.4 in the world, they were supposed to be one of the heavyweights in this year’s world cup. After the group stage draw as well, they alongside Germany were the obvious picks from the group; yet after two games all they have to show is a measly point and even victory against Ghana on Thursday might not be enough to send them through.

Portugal qualified for the world cup via the European play-offs, beating Sweden 4-2 on aggregate in a spectacular 2-legged tie that saw Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic score all six goals between them.

The second leg game, which Portugal won 3-2, was a tour de force from Ronaldo. In that 90 minutes in Lisbon Ronaldo single-handedly annihilated the Swedish side, giving the world a taste of what they should expect come this mundial.

Brazil 2014 World Cup | Fighting Over TV Remote…Boys Abr3

World Cup
World Cup

So for the last 2 days, I have had to watch the World Cup matches on my laptop and if things do not change, I will be forced to bring out the new TV I bought to send home to Ghana—simply because the Mrs won’t let me have the TV all by myself.

It all started well without complaints but watching 3 matches a day means, she cannot watch any of her TV programmes. I succeeded for some days, paying her 2 pounds to miss her TV programmes (which she can watch later via TV Catch-Up or record them) so I can watch the World Cup but she has gotten wiser—and wants more than 2 pounds (which I cannot afford) or we share the TV time equally…

I have put up all the threats, ranging from I will go to my friend’s house each evening to watch the soccer matches—to— I will go on unplanned holidays for a month so I can enjoy all the matches in peace and she doesn’t seem to be moved.

All she wants is a fair share of the TV. Even though I have just ordered a new cable from Amazon, intending to open the new TV bought for Ghana and connect it somewhere near my working desk to enjoy the world Cup in peace, I still don’t understand why the women can’t leave the men to enjoy just a month of TV when they always have the TV.

Ghanaian Gospel Musicians Ought To Step Up Their Game

Gifty Osei

Music is definitely one of the things that make life enjoyable. Without it, you can visualize how mind-numbing the universe will be. It is of this reason why there exist several musicians who entertain us with good songs.

In our era, a song is incomplete without an amazing music video accompanying it. For the benefits that music video brings, the musicians themselves know.

Music videos are not limited to only secular musicians. Gospel artistes are free to shoot videos for their songs. Some years back, the quality and concept of our musicians’ music videos were nothing to write home about. Things have improved a bit in this our technological age. Some musicians try as much as possible to use better equipments to shoot their music videos to get the right quality. When we put secular musicians and gospel artistes in Ghana side by side, we can notice great difference between music videos by these sets of artistes.

Over time, I’ve realised that, secular musicians pay extra attention to the kind of concepts they use. The concepts, most often, reflect the ideas conveyed by the songs. I love the fact that secular musicians now pay meticulous attention locations they choose for their music videos as well. The same thing cannot be said about gospel artistes.

For some time now, I’ve paid much attention to gospel music videos in Ghana. The gospel artistes are still struggling with the idea of coming up with innovative concepts. As for the kind of locations they choose for their music videos, I better not say anything about them.

Ghana Black Stars

It looks like to even get what you are rightly due in Ghana, you have to protest or make strong threats—when it should not be the case.

Following threats to boycott tomorrow’s Ghana Vrs Portugal match by the Ghana national team-the Black Stars due to unpaid agreed appearance fees and bonuses, the President of the Republic of Ghana-John Dramini Mahama stepped him to promise the players that, their monies will be received before the above match.

It emerged yesterday that, since the World Cup started, the Black Stars have not been paid any monies (appearance fees and bonuses) and the players were losing their patience, boycotting yesterday’s training session—with threats to boycott the Portugal vrs Ghana match. Even though these fees were to be paid by the large sum FIFA gave to Ghana for qualifying for the World Cup, somehow, the players have not been paid after two weeks into the tournament.

According to reports, when the President of Ghana spoke to players and promised to ensure that they get their payments as soon as possible, the players insisted they wanted cash as they are tired of the many stories of electronic transfers they’ve been told in the last few days.

THE BIG DEBATE: Is University Education the REAL Key to Success?

University Education

The importance of basic education which comprises of ability to read and write cannot be underestimated. All around the world, literacy has been given prominence—and I cannot even think about my life without being able to read and write.

At the basic level, there is no argument against the fact that, some sort of education is the real key to success—even if we buy into the argument that success is relative.

However, University education (High education) is where the contention lies. Is Higher Education or University Education the key to success in Ghana, Africa and the World as a whole?

Interestingly, despite the parents push and several individuals desire to obtain higher education across the Globe, certain excessively rich and famous people, ranging from Bill Gates to Mark Zuckerberg had no use for University Education—and eventually dropped off. Yet, they went on to become the World’s greatest in their chosen field.

Some may argue that luck was on the side of these people and that beyond basic education, the real key to success in life is LUCK and nothing more.
