The Botched State of Ghana Took Over 47 Officials to the World Cup + MORE | Are We Going to Get Any Accountability?

According to reports, Sulley Muntari got into a fight with one of Ghana’s World Cup committee members- Medeama owner-Moses Parker Armah because he questioned the essence of all the many Ghanaian officials in Brazil, who were getting paid huge sums why the footballers (who were the main focus) were not being paid.

Sulley Muntari is reported to have said this; “what is the use of so many GFA officials & others here? You are basically non-Essential and have no role or duties here. Your Number even dwarf that of the players… You receive Bonuses for no work done. You are a drain on the Govt…. You always make money on our back and you see every tournament as a means to make money…. And you have the vim to question us why we want our money?”.

It emerged yesterday that, 47 or more officials were flown from Ghana to Brazil—and interestingly, all these officials were paid huge sums of money, ranging from bonuses to allowances. They also stayed in expensive hotels. It is alleged that some of these officials even went to Brazil with their concubines and children—all being paid by the state of Ghana.

Apart from the fact that majority of the over 500 supporters who were taken to Brazil had to watch the Ghana Vrs Germany match on TV and all of them had to watch the Ghana Vrs Portugal match on TV because of logistic problems—on Thursday morning (before the Ghana Vrs Portugal match), another over 70 supporters were flown to Brazil by the Sports Ministry.

Considering the fact that Ghana had already sent over 500 supporters out there who were struggling and could not be flown to watch the matches, what was the sense in flying more supporters there? Even if those in charge were confident that Ghana was going to qualify to the next stage, would it not have been prudent for them to wait and do so after the Ghana Vrs Portugal match—that is if we indeed qualify?

Contrary to the Government saying bags of $3 million cash were airlifted to Brazil to pay the football players, it has also emerged from Bank sources that, the cash that was flown to Brazil was more than what was stated. It was as much as $4.5 million.

If indeed the money was needed to pay the football players alone as we are made to be aware, 23 players receiving $75,000 or $100,000 each does not come close to the amount sent—so why did the Government send as much as $4.5 million to Brazil?

Ghana has become a laughing stock of the world and it is due to the incompetence and corruption of some people, who are walking about freely as if nothing has happened. They will probably not be held accountable.

As usual, there are more questions than answers…

The players’ appearance fee which was the underlying factor of Ghana’s World Cup negative publicity was in fact supposed to have been paid to the players before the Ghana Vrs Holland friendly match, it has emerged.

Those in charge failed to make payments and promised the players it will be paid before the Ghana Vrs South Korea friendly. Again, it was not paid and the players still proceeded to play the match. At this stage, reports say, the players were promised they will definitely receive the payment in their respective bank accounts before their first World Cup match against USA—and once again it was not paid.

The players were asked to stay calm and that, for sure they will receive their monies before the Ghana Vrs Germany match and that did not happen. No payment was made into their bank accounts—and at this stage, you will be a big fool to play the next match and not demand that you want the payment in cash.

The problems were a lot and those in charge must be brought to answer the relevant questions and be held accountable…

Before the 2014 World Cup started, the Government of Ghana gave the GFA $9.6 million and yet, the GFA came back asking for more cash to be lifted to Brazil to pay the players. John Dumelo is on record for saying, the World Cup ambassadors raised over $2 million dollars—so what happened to that cash too? And can somebody tell us what these ambassadors who were sponsored to Brazil actually did for Ghana?

In the face of all the above, Ghana has no water, electricity and today, there is no FUEL too. At this stage, if I am ever asked to give an example of a botched State, I will definitely say GHANA.

The only people enjoying the Sun in Ghana is the politicians and look at how they even have made the whole world be talking about Ghana like we are bunch of jokers. It will not get better if those in charge of the country dont end the corruption and greed

    • my dear just say it will not get better b’cos those in charge are not ready to end corruption and greedineess. the sad thing is the poor ones who suffer the most keep on getting poorer

      • Exactly, the rich ones can afford the expensive food and pay for generators, travel abroad for medical care, send their wards abroad for education—small percentage of the population. The majority are suffering, being ripped off by the gov’t and the small percentage but they sit and do nothing. Those we put in charge of affairs have had their conscience bought with money!

        • Yes. I guess many of the leaders have money thinking for them, thus, leaving their natural medulla oblongata dysfunctional. The leaders are the headache of Africa.

  3. There’s no fuel, water, electricity, but flew gfa officials and their supporters to brazil on taxpayers dime, meanwhile expectant mothers/babies cannot get beds to sleep on at the hospitals, they are sleeping on the floors and this mahama is paying for people who have nothing to do with the blackstars their accommodations. If you don’t see any problem with this govt, you are more that stupid.

    • Sometimes it is difficult to understand the mindset of the Ghanaian. The question is; what are we doing about the situation? We see it all, we endure the hardship and do nothing. We don’t hold our leaders accountable and as such, they do what pleases them. Who will not do that?

  5. I keep saying Ghana is being ruled by the less intelligent and less noble of human beings. The problem is that the masses don’t fight back and so these so called leaders keep messing up the country. Ghanaians need an awakening in consciousness in order for things to change. The mindset of the people must change otherwise the country will keep plunging into gloom and doom.
