Ghanaians Only Cry When They are Not Part of the ‘Chopping Squad’ | Greedy Bastards!

Greedy
Greedy

The strange ‘conjecture’ I’ve had to battle myself with for many years was confirmed as true over the last few days—as the economic and social conditions in Ghana obtained unbearable status.

As expected, some Ghanaians wearing ‘the truth and honest’ cloak came out, took over social media and sent out unending messages—all capturing how tough and disappointing living in Ghana has become.

On Facebook, countless discussions erupted as Ghanaians probed the activities on the ruling Government in the face of the Ghana-Brazil ‘wahala’ among other internal developments.

I joined some of these discussions and others; I was forced to be part as people kept tagging me into the heated arguments. It was fun but more importantly, we were talking about conditions which could get worst if the Government did not swiftly act to address the problems, especially the petroleum crisis…

As a Ghanaian, I’ve come to realize that the words-honesty and accountability have different meanings to most Ghanaians. And to be frank, this is the underlying cause of our many increasing political, economic and social problems.

Being honest, truthful or accountable is understood differently by Ghanaians, depending on where the person stands—not ideologically or factually determined, but ‘pocketly’ understood.

No matter how obvious a bad situation is, there can never be a consensus among Ghanaians that, this is bad and we have to get it fixed. You will find a great number of people (Ghanaians) living under the same bad circumstance defending the indefensible with absurd arguments and propaganda tales—simply because they are part of the ‘chopping squad’ or have an agenda.

Let the table turn around and the tallest among the truth telling giants will all of a sudden become blind to the truth, ignoring what needs to be said because his or her pocket has been filled.

Today, we saw several Ghanaians taking to the street to register their displeasure in a form of a protest with the ruling Government being the target, for how bad the economy and life have become in the West African country.

Factually and honestly, things are bad in Ghana and every Ghanaian living within the borders of the country can feel it. It is like a scorching sun, you can feel it and you can see how others are sweating too. But as usual, there are some Ghanaians living in the same Ghana characterised by ‘no electricity, no water, no fuel, unpaid salaries, high inflation and the abysmal performance of the cedi’ who are dead RIGHT that the country is doing well—and that, there is nothing to complaint about.

It will shock the most corrupt mind in the world as to how this can be possible. It may seem there are two different countries, all called Ghana in West Africa when you access the arguments, the actions and reactions of our Ghanaian brothers and sisters.

And the hard truth is, it is the same Ghana we are talking about but people belong to different squads—the chopping squad and the hungry (deprived from chopping) squad.

Those whose pockets have been filled and pumped thick by those in charge of affairs or have any sort of close affiliations with those in charge form the ‘chopping squad’ who will swear on their lives that, Ghana is doing well and the economy is as fine as the Brazilian bikini butt I just saw on TV.

On the other hand, you will find those crying out loud day in and out, organising and participating in various campaigns and protests (both online and offline), parading themselves as well wishers of Ghana, truth lovers, honest citizens who want nothing more than accountable and good governance. This group of people are those who are not part of the chopping squad today—-let the table turn and I bet they will forget what honesty, truth and accountability demand from a citizen.

There are too many greedy bastards holding Ghanaian citizenship and do not have the welfare of the nation or their fellow citizens at heart. These people are heard when the food has been taken away from their tables. They forget how hungry others are when they are being overfed. But the moment the food is taken from their tables, they start shouting—thieves, corruption, accountability and ‘let’s fight for Ghana’.

I thought politics and rule by deceit were traits of certain corrupt individuals that always form a small percentage of any country’s population. But in Ghana, these traits swing—you pick them up, depending on who is at the top and how much you are to pocket, regardless if your pumped pocket is to the detriment of the masses…

And let me add that, there are a few who do not belong to any of these two squads just like me. These people have studied the game but have given up on attempts to make any truthful impact, so they just sit and watch—for the explosion and counter-explosion to continue.

  1. Well said Chris. Ghana will never get better and it is not a curse but the truth. We ghanaians play stomach direction politics. No decent man or woman left in Ghana. Even the journalists are corrupt. You give them some little cash and they be silent or will come to defend your corrupt activities as if nothing is bad. Oh Ghana

    • The ease at which you can buy the conscience of some people in Ghana is our biggest problem. You will mostly come across a well educated individual talking as if he has not stepped in a class room before, all because he has been paid to talk like that—defending obvious corruption and projects which do not benefit the citizens in anyway.

  2. As a Ghanaian living abroad, I pity Ghana so much and the direction is the country has taken is depressing. I read the facebook discussion and I cannot believe any Ghanaian will defend the gov’ts actions but some people were. As Chris said, it is all about greedy bastards. No one has Ghana at heart genuinely it is all about what we can rip from the state coffers

    • Corruption is a problem everywhere in the World but in Ghana, the problem of corruption is deeper—because the citizens do not even see it, they support corrupt officials or are part of the corrupt gang, by virtue of some side kick or a little they can get through affiliations. They only see there is corruption when they have no sidekicks coming or they see others chopping and not them. Sad!
