Ghana: A Country Where Prophets and Spiritualists Love Money & Fame More than Telling the Truth

I love Ghana. This is because I am sure to wake up every morning and laugh to some idiotic jokes, wacky thoughts, weird beliefs and assumptions. Whoever told you it’s not worth living here surely does not want you to progress in life.

What makes it more pleasurable is the fact that there exist some prophets and spiritualists out here who cannot differentiate their left from right, but are able to prognosticate what lies ahead in the future or what goes on in the spiritual realm.

Let an issue come up; then you’ll get to see the outrageous number of prophets and spiritualists who will jump and feed on the issue. What at all did we (Ghanaians and the world) not hear from some so-called Men of God and spiritualists when the Ghanaian national team – Black Stars – were in Brazil for the 2014 World Cup?

Prophecies upon prophecies on various radio and television stations were foretold. From that time up till now, I can’t really tell what happened to those divinations. Even the notorious and fame-driven ‘Goat beard’ prophet couldn’t have his God-sent prophecy about the Black Stars come true.

As for Kwaku Bonsam, I do not even want to write about him. The only spiritualist who can boast of bettering the lives of others, yet cannot refurbish his damaged face.

It is quite surprising that you hardly hear from these ones till an issue comes up. A typical example is the heart-rending incident that has befallen Hiplife musician Castro (real name – Theophilus Tagoe) and his friend, Janet Bandu.

Within few hours after the unpleasant incident occurred, many were the prophets and spiritualists who came out with their theories to shore up the drowning case. Up till now, new prophets and spiritualists emerge everyday to add their voices to the issue.

You do not need intellectuals like Shakespeare, Isaac Newton, or Mahatma Gandhi to resurrect from the dead and tell you such ones are throwing dust in the eyes of the public. There seems to be no coherence and logic in whatever they put out.

Why is it that different spiritualists put out diverse information about the whole Castro saga that conflict themselves? The prophets or men of God even worsen the situation when they tend to add their voices to the ongoing issue. Which one among the several spiritualists and prophets are we (Ghanaians and the entire world) to believe now?

Some are saying Castro is alive whilst others have pronounced him dead. Some say he is with Maame Water (marine god) under the sea whereas others claim he has gone to a different town or country. Which is which, and which one is the truth?

It is very shocking that all these people have different things to say when they are given free airtime to help salvage the situation. It is very obvious that such ones do not have anything proper to offer but rather keep confusing the general public.

Mind you, all these spiritualists and prophets are not embarking on this search project for free. Listening to all of them, they demand money from the families of Castro and Janet Bandu before they perform whatever right they have to. What I may choose to call hoodwinking is when after taking the money and all that is required for the sacrifice, they still come back and demand for more money to complete whatever task they set themselves. What kind of gibberish is that?

Let’s ask ourselves, have the so-called spiritualists and prophets who took monies from Asamoah Gyan to bring back the bodies of Castro and Janet Bandu been able to do that? The answer is a big NO. That should inform you that they are rather chasing after the money than doing the right thing and saying the truth; and the truth is they know nothing about what they are saying.

Aside the pursuit for money, the self acclaimed prophets and spiritualists are far more interested in getting famous than helping out with the situation. It’s not easy buying TV and radio airtime to promote one’s church or shrine. The only free media hype these prophets and spiritualists can get is to jump on the back of situations like this. Now, the entire world is following this issue; that means the prophets and spiritualists have even gotten their names to go beyond the shores of the country. What a very sensible way to promote oneself.

If I were part of the families of the missing persons (Castro and Janet Bandu), I wouldn’t even give consideration (talk of even spending money) on these attention seekers and money chasers. As for the fake spiritualists and prophets, the more you continue to believe in them, the more money they make from you – with no positive results.

If Ghana is going to continue like this, then I guess I have to stop being a writer and probably find a piece of land and establish either a shrine or a prayer camp. With that, I’m sure I can make some good money, and on top of it all, become famous in a split of a second.
