Pre-showing, Post-showing, After-showing or whatever you can think of, why is it so for a whole continent with just one slot?
The biggest problems Africans have is the fact that, when something is wrong, we cannot see it or probably we see it but we are not bold enough to stand up for ourselves—-the reason why our continent, though the richest remains the poorest in the world.
A big continent like Africa has just one category at the yearly BET Awards and yet, the organizers have not found the need, respect and urgency to make sure we are given the highest platform of recognition by giving this single award on the main stage.
It started with African award winners being handed their plaques backstage to what Davido seems to be happy with, and explains as pre-show awarding.
So basically, before the main awards starts to give the maximum respect and recognition to winners, a ‘shabby’ award is recorded in front of empty chairs where African winners among others are given their awards, recorded to be played later.
Surely BET cannot give every single award on their main stage because of logistic and time factors but with just a single award for the whole goddam Africa which will take 2 minutes to be given on stage, there is no reasonable defence for their actions, except lack of respect for our African acts.
Then again, see Davido excited about it below—and defending what was done. So if African acts are happy about this, why would BET not let them perform in front of their workers, bystanders and cleaners?

It’s money. advertisement dollars. Most African stars are not know that well to bring the advertisement dollars. It’s just that simple.
African recording artist are not played on America airway. For Television rating they need American star for television advertisement dollars. Its not disrespect it’s about television rating which bring in company for advertisement dollars who spend in millions of dollars for 30 second commercial. Stop being so emotional and do your homework. Africans are making great music but, they must generate dollars or have international star power aka bring dollars in for fortune 500 company.
You people kraa, do you realize most makor award ceremonies dont give out all the awards during the main show? Even the most respected music awards show the Grammys hand out the majority of their awards during the pre show which isnt telecast on TV. If an African won a Grammy for best World Music Album for instance it wouldnt be telecast. Award shows only telecast categories with the most audience appeal. So if we want to be on the main stage for any awards show we need to make sure African Music is as dominant as Pop Music in the USA as it is in Africa
I am sure you did not read the article. So they can’t give a whole Africa’s one slot stage award? What are you talking about? It is not about the majority here it is about just one award for the whole Africa and they can’t add that to their stage awarding? You must be a big joker. If they don’t think African awards is dominant, why invite them then? What argument is this?
Look facts are facts, not all awards are usually presented at any awards show, even with the Grammys and the Oscars major awards for RnB, Country, Rock & Roll, Pop, and directorial efforts are presented at the pre-show while some are presented at the awards show’s main event.
Its all based on audience interest, they might want to reward African music but at the end of the day they are a business, that 1 slot that interests fewer of their audience could be used as a performance space for one of their major artistes such as Beyonce, Alicia Keys etc, which will draw and keep audiences glued. They are not trying to be philanthropic thats not their agenda. This is the logic they are working with.
So if you dont want to go for the award they are giving you then dont go, but dont expect them to suit your preferences, after all we have our own award shows here like MTV MAMA’s and Kora Awards
