‘Double Your Money’ Fetish Priest and Nephew Murdered for Failure to Deliver

A woman holds 03 July 2007 in Accra a wa

Six young men have found themselves in hot water today after they were arrested for their alleged involvement in the murder of a chief priest and his nephew after the two failed to deliver on their promise to double their money.

The six are believed to have given to the fetish priest, Nana Asare Obinim, a cool GHc 10,000 for him to increase to an even cooler GHc 100,000.

According to the Nkawkaw District Police Commander, DSP Gyabeng Manu, the alleged act is believed to have occurred on July 30, when the six made their umpteenth visit to the chief priest’s house but could not get him to give them the increased money or even their initial deposit of GHc 10,000.

An ensuing misunderstanding led to some heated arguments, during which Nana Obinim and his nephew Owusu, are believed to have been killed.

The suspects carried the bodies to the community cemetery for burial, but were later arrested by police. They remain in custody as police conduct further investigations.

The six suspects range in age between 17-22. Leaving aside the question as to how they raised such a colossal sum, the bigger question is why they felt the need to have the money increased without any significant work on their part. What deformities do they have that they cannot invest the money in some good honest work to yield them some profits?

Who Takes Over From Jackie Appiah? | Christabel Ekeh, Joselyn Dumas, Kafui Danku or WHO?

Jackie Appiah and Director-Shirley Frimpong Manso

I was sent a link to a Hollywood Reporter article which looked at how Hollywood is struggling to find the next Denzel Washington (a major black movie star), now that Denzel is being faded out as a result of old age.

I couldn’t miss the connection and the fact that the Ghanaian Movie Industry is somewhat in the same pickle, although caused by a different element. While Denzel Washington, 59 is at the edge of dropping from the big roles as the only standing black actor due to old age, Will Smith, 45 and Eddie Murphy, 53 cannot be said to be perfect stand-in candidates considering their ages too, the article noted.

Jackie Appiah and Denzel Washington may not have anything in common, except that they can both call themselves actors—even with that, one acts for a third world movie industry which struggles to sell its movies to its own people, while the other is a box office champion with an undisputed international status.

The truth is; Jackie Appiah has held the Ghanaian Movie Industry together with her face and acting (even if we find her acting substandard) for many years—and calling her the true face of the contemporary Ghana Movie Industry would not be a far-fetched rank. Perhaps, she is the most bankable Ghanaian actress—even as of today.

I do not have the exact total number of awards she has to her name but I am yet to meet anyone who will disagree with me that she holds more awards than that of any two of her colleagues put together. She has done it all—-from the strict VCD days to the booming era of movie premieres that took over the capital cities, Jackie Appiah was the poster girl.

There was a time most film-makers couldn’t imagine taking the risk of shooting a movie without having her as their lead—not simply because she was exceptionally good but because, she brought in the sales and having her face on your movie guaranteed a smile to the bank.

Though she could not score any great point with her brand, she remains the strongest, well-kept and untainted Ghanaian Movie star brand we’ve seen in recent times—and she has enjoyed the spark of glamour more than even those who rejuvenated the industry she later became part of…

Each and Everyone for Himself; and the Government for us All | the Acceptable Filth of Accra

Ghana dirt

A recent outbreak of Cholera in the Accra metropolis has thrown into sharp relief the issue of sanitation, one significant issue which quite frankly Ghanaians take for granted.

The outbreak has so far claimed the lives of five people, with hundreds more reporting to health facilities with the condition. The issue has become so bad that the La General Hospital was forced to shut down all other operations to tend only to the sheer number of cholera patients.

Cholera is a bacterial infection that is transmitted through the faecal matter of an infected person. It thrives in unsanitary conditions and causes severe diarrhoea which if not treated can be quite fatal, as it often leads to severe dehydration due to the frequent passing of stool.

Now to the question of the epidemic, and the wonder here, sadly, should be that there hasn’t been more cases of the outbreak in the past, considering that Accra is a city that resides in permanent filth. For the capital city of Ghana, a short walk through the central business district and you would wonder how and why it was ever bestowed with that status in the first place.

But the reason for this piece is to point out another failing of us as a people, which is the tendency to rely on government for even the most rudimentary things; hence the title. The aforementioned dirty places in the heart of the city serve as the busiest trading district in the entire country, yet business is conducted in the filth every, single, day. People have shops right over open dirty gutters, and no one bothers to do anything because it is believed to be the responsibility of the government.

And believe me, this is not an exaggeration. I have literally heard people saying that a gutter, running in front of their house, choked with filth, should be cleaned by the government. It is the ‘Aban’ who is responsible for maintaining public properties, so the gutter as a public property should be cleaned by the government.

Eminem and Rihanna Perform at 2014 Lollapalooza in Chicago

From BeyondGossip.Com

Rihanna teamed up with Eminem to perform at the 2014 Lollapalooza yesterday (August 1) in Chicago.

Rihanna surprised fans at the first day of Lollapalooza when she joined Eminem on stage to perform their hits together. The duo performed recent hit, ‘The Monster’, ‘Love The Way You Lie’ and even Eminem’s 1999 hit ‘Stan’.

Poor performance from Rihanna. Vocally she was not really bad, but her stage presence left much to be desired. There was absolutely no energy in her performance, just prancing and modeling on stage. The Lollapalooza audience were really bored as hell.

Eminem on the contrary, was very good on the night. Great performance from the legendary rapper.

Eminem and Rihanna are gearing up for their forthcoming “Monster” tour which kicks off this Thursday (August 7) at Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.
