Ghana’s Political Elites Disengaged from the Common People

Map of Ghana

A friend of mine has been trying to meet a Deputy Minister for over three months now. Being a young guy with little to no ‘contacts’ yet, he’s had to go about it the old fashioned way, by trying to get the Minister during advertised visiting hours.

These visiting hours are limited to two hours in an entire week, and are supposed to be the only time anyone can have unfettered access to this Minister without prior appointment. Needless to say the esteemed deputy hasn’t been in office even once during those hours the past three months.

My friend has a brilliant idea, which if implemented might revolutionise one particular sector in need of revolutionising, and certainly drag it into the 21st Century. He has been sitting on it for over a year, spent thousands of Ghana cedis on setting it up at the ground level, but now needs some sort of official seal to implement it large scale.

He’s never had the opportunity to meet the Minister, and his staff was scarcely helpful. When an attempt was made to book an official appointment, the answer was that only the Minister can ask to meet someone.

Otherwise, they give you a piece of paper, you write your contact info and intended purpose for the meeting, and you give it to them.

A piece of paper, in 21st century Ghana; they probably toss it into the bin as your back is turned.

What’s the purpose of this long digression? There is a feeling by elected officials in this country that they’re above the common people. Sure people in Government can and should be busy, but you scarcely make a commitment then fail to keep it even once in three consecutive months!

Christians are the Biggest Argument Against Christianity

Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ

The condescension and barely masked pity Christians put on whenever someone of no faith put their arguments across can be pretty galling at times. At that moment they reinforce their beliefs in how they are on the right path and how the other person would ‘see’ when judgement day comes around.

It’s seen everywhere, even in the comments section of this site whenever one of these posts is published. Yet the truth cannot be further from what is portrayed. To the unbeliever, Christians themselves remain the biggest argument against turning to Christ.

And you know why that is? It’s because we are humans, and humans inherently are selfish, greedy, covetous, and millions of other deprecating qualities. Of course, we can be wonderful, kind, courteous, and millions of other virtuous qualities as well, but one does not cancel out the other.

In the words of Stannis Baratheon in the novel ‘A Clash of Kings’, “A good act does not wash out the bad, nor a bad act the good. Each should have its own reward”

As humans we are a veritable mix of both qualities, and it shows in our interactions with each other. Yet Christians like to pretend it’s not, and that they are striving for a certain holiness as prescribed by their faith.

Yet I am surrounded by people who break the creed they are supposed to go by all the time. People who are not supposed to lie, cheat, steal, fornicate, insult others, etc; do so with impunity every single day. They go through the week racking up their sin points, then go to church on Sunday and come back and pretend they’re better than everyone else.

SHOCKING: Ghana Records First Case of Ebola!

EBOLA

After several negative scares and a near invincible general outlook concerning Ebola which has become a regional threat to West Africa, it seems Ghana just may have recorded her first case of Ebola!

It is reported that on Friday afternoon, a Burkinabe man, who had general symptoms of Ebola including fever, nose and ear bleeding, was taken to the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital dead on arrival. The man was brought through the border from Burkina to Ghana by his relatives who wanted proper medical care for him but he died on the way. My question? Why wasn’t he screened at the border? Is Ghana this careless?

Dr Joseph Yaw Manu, confirmed to StarrFMonline.com that the man had died at the time he was brought in, saying: “…What scared me most as a Medical Doctor is that he was bleeding from his ears and nose–symptoms of Ebola.”

Do you know what I am thinking? If it is indeed Ebola, there will be a few more cases reported in the vicinity soon because several others were exposed without protective clothing to the body of the man. Especially since it wasn’t expected. The medical personnel and the people who carried him to the hospital and anyone else who touched him or came in contact with his body somehow.
