SHOCKING: Ghana Records First Case of Ebola!

EBOLA

After several negative scares and a near invincible general outlook concerning Ebola which has become a regional threat to West Africa, it seems Ghana just may have recorded her first case of Ebola!

It is reported that on Friday afternoon, a Burkinabe man, who had general symptoms of Ebola including fever, nose and ear bleeding, was taken to the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital dead on arrival. The man was brought through the border from Burkina to Ghana by his relatives who wanted proper medical care for him but he died on the way. My question? Why wasn’t he screened at the border? Is Ghana this careless?

Dr Joseph Yaw Manu, confirmed to StarrFMonline.com that the man had died at the time he was brought in, saying: “…What scared me most as a Medical Doctor is that he was bleeding from his ears and nose–symptoms of Ebola.”

Do you know what I am thinking? If it is indeed Ebola, there will be a few more cases reported in the vicinity soon because several others were exposed without protective clothing to the body of the man. Especially since it wasn’t expected. The medical personnel and the people who carried him to the hospital and anyone else who touched him or came in contact with his body somehow.

Very disturbing news for a country whose health minister instead of preparing for the health threat was saying on Friday that Ghana will never see Ebola but only hear of it in other countries.

What measures do we have in place Dr. Kwaku Agyemang (Minister of Health)? You need to school us more on what your outfit is doing to protect Ghanaians! Because I haven’t seen a single move.

Dr. Manu of the Bawku Presby hospital has since sent blood samples of the deceased for testing at the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) at the University of Ghana. If Ebola has killed at least 961 people in the West African sub-region out of 1,779 total cases. Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea are among the hardest hit countries.

Although many suspected cases have been reported in Ghana, most were reported negative upon testing. And there are many rumours of the disease along coastal towns in Ghana where fishermen cross between countries without customs checks and screening.

  1. they are allowed people frm those other affected countries to enter ghana? why? After all these noise why didn’t u close the border or take serious medical scans or something. Look at the number of Nigerian scammers mostly prison escapes, using Gh passports, names, Identification cards, even voters ID cards to complicate the country with fraud, Liberians, togolese etc who go in n out of Ghana anyhow they like without any proper immigration attention. if these ple are infected how would one even know? u better take immediate preliminary measures followed by safe authentic measures before is too late. The country is so loose i just can’t understand, Ghana is a joke!

Do you care to share why Liberians and Sierra Leonians are refusing to return and build their home countries even after though the war ended forever ago (and you even have like, a new president now)? Please check yourself before people descend on you. GC hasei yɛmmu obiaa wɔha wate.

        • Really? Why don’t you share why Ghanians reside in different countries, other than their own. Give me a logical explanation for why Nigerians are in America, Liberia, Brazil, Nigeria, etc…I’ll be waiting for your answer.

There is nothing I hate more than ignorant fools. Blame your government, just like I blame mine, for the spread of Ebola in your country. Back in Feb/March, if the Liberian government had closed the borders, we wouldn’t be dealing with this situation right now. I have no ill will towards the Guinean who brought Ebola to Liberia, I am mad at the government of Liberia for not securing our borders. YOU need to check YOURSELF!!!

          • don’t get your panties in a twist, I have Lib friends and it’s something I rib them about a lot, so don’t misunderstand my comment (I don’t see where the ignorant fool label applies).
Your guy “who know tomorrow” here drew first blood by calling someone stupid for expressing anger at the government. Same anger you had at *your* government. See where I’m going with this?

        • I have checked myself, am clean but I no am not perfect or holy, I don’t go around online mocking other Countries… Ebola is something we all need to sit down and find solution to and this is not only for the affected countries, no matter how small some other country is, Ghana still need something from them or will need something from there one day, so control your write up online or offline, maybe you should go through @ESI comment again, there are Ghanaian in other country with bad behavior, well am waiting for those that will descend on me,

    • Those Ghanians that are pretending to be holier than thou, like no one has ever helped them before, please go back an READ. My comments were in reply to Xavier’s post, not Esi’s.

People piss me off when they start telling others to go back to their own countries. How can you say that, when your own people are all over the damn place seeking asylum and trying to make better living for themselves and their families?

      • We’re talking of ghanaians living in other places in the world…we’re talking about gh-lib connection, so let’s stick to that topic…Ghanians don’t pretend and we’ve never called ourselves to be holier than thou…But if our country isn’t any better, ppl from lib wouldn’t be seeking refuge in gh…and MY COMMENT was not in connection to you as i didn’t reply to u…obviously the chain of comments started from Esi’s post which she was only making a valid point…she didn’t even insult LIB in any type of way…off course gh is all over the globe, the same way LIB, naija, togoleese, etc. are all over the globe…

        • Please, you go back and read the first few comments. Esi agreed with Xavier regarding Liberians and Sierra Leonians refusing to return home to their countries.

Listen, I detest it when people, especially Africans, have the nerve to tell other people to get out of their countries. You and I both know that if there was a war in Ghana today, Ebola or not, Ghanians will be running to other West African countries. The human instinct is to run to a safe place, when there is danger.

This is not just about Liberian and Ghana, it’s a global issue. Only people with small minds think like this.

  5. Why start a headline with such an emphatic statement only to fill the details with “maybes”. That is appalling journalistic work aimed at directing traffic and all that you guys end up doing is perpetuating the mass hysteria going on outside the country
by further deceiving people who are trying to get more information. I know
everyone is trying to be cautious but this ridiculous on a whole different
    level. Be very ashamed.
