So it looks like the celebrity divorce battle of the new millennium is going to be an African affair, as Dr and Mrs Oyakhilome shape up for their impending court date.

News broke earlier that Anita had filed for divorce against the charismatic pastor in the United Kingdom, citing ‘adultery’ and ‘unreasonable behaviour’, whilst it also emerged that all pictures and anything remotely tied to the vice president of Christ embassy had been torn down from the church website.

Well Mrs Oyakhilome has fired a returning salvo to her husband, as according to Nigerian newspaper Premium Times, her lawyers have responded to the cyber attack on their client saying, that Anita is definitely done with Pastor Chris and that there does not exist even the teeniest possibility for an out-of-court settlement.

Anyone hoping to have avoided the long, drawn-out, airing of dirty laundry Western style celebrity divorce is in for a big disappointment, as these two has already gone down that road and the response from Anita’s lawyers shuts the door on that possibility, definitively!

Her lawyers, Attwaters Jameson Hill Solicitors, told the newspaper “It is with great sadness that our client, Pastor Anita Oyakhilome, has come to the conclusion that her marriage to Pastor Christian Oyakhilome has irretrievably broken down and regrettably there is no hope of reconciliation”

So it looks like neither side is backing down, and this divorce would be seen out to its bitter conclusion. So far the siege mentality groups develop when threatened has already emerged, as the church has cast Mrs Oyakhilome in the role of the villain who is trying to tarnish the name of the good man of God.

And you can be sure that’s how majority of Christ Embassy members, and indeed many other Christians, would see it. Of course it’s a lot more complex than that, but some people can never admit that their pastors might be capable of doing wrong as regular people do.

The report further quotes Pastor Chris as saying that his wife is a bitter and angry woman who is being influenced by bad friends who are out to seek his downfall.

He also believes most pastors’ wives usually think they are equal to their husbands after they get married.

I don’t know whether it’s a religious belief or a personal one, but I think the above quote tells me a lot about Pastor Chris, and that he’s not going to come out of this smelling quite as good as he’s thinking he would.
