Rev Ebenezer Adarkwah Yiadom is not your typical pastor; he has a slot on prime time TV in Ghana, and he often takes the time to make some pretty ridiculous claims. This talent of his keeps him not particularly far from controversy at all times.

He hit the airwaves somewhere last month after claiming Ebola originated from cannibalism, and not bush meat as had been scientifically proven for decades. He thus encouraged his congregants to patronise bush meat all they can, a move which in my opinion was as stupid and thoughtless as it was dangerous.

Well the enigmatic preacher has made another rousing declaration, one that is as certain to capture the public’s imagination as his last pronouncement did. Opambour in a sermon to his congregation, according to starrfmonline, told his congregation that whilst any and all ailments are welcome in his church, Ebola is where he draws the line.

He said “wherever you are in Ghana, come for your healing and deliverance. Whatever burden you have been laden with come here, god will deliver you through me. But if you have Ebola don’t come, because we are not ready for you”

I have been waiting for a while to see how these oh so powerful pastors plan to deal with Ebola, but it seems Opambour is going the pragmatic route. You cannot deny that is the realistic route, but some of these guys crow so much you would think they could deliver the devil himself if he showed up in their church.

Ebola of course isn’t in Ghana yet, so all this is hypothetical; but you would think the guy who encouraged people to disregard one of the biggest don’ts to preventing an outbreak the magnitude of Ebola would have had a plan to deal with it if his advice horribly backfired.

Thankfully we might never have to deal with Ebola, which is sweeping through other parts of West Africa at a pace which should scare anyone. Opambour realises it, I just wish he had thought of that before so thoughtlessly encouraging bush meat consumption a few weeks ago.
