Indeed, the Ghana Football Association has SACKED coach-Kwesi Appiah in line with yesterday’s speculations—-a move which could see Kwesi Appiah being paid over 800,000 dollars if he is to get his two year contract salary as FIFA rules demand. We hear the GFA is looking to negotiate on this, and has already made an offer of 100,000 dollars as compensation for the repudiation of contract.

Putting the expected SACKING in a polite way, GFA wrote on their official website the below;

GFA And Kwesi Appiah Agree To Mutually Part Ways

“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Black Stars coach James Kwesi Appiah have agreed to mutually part ways.

The two parties met on Friday morning to reach the agreement on the departure of Mr. Appiah.

The lawyers of the two parties will meet next week to decide on the severance package for Mr. Appiah based on the contract of his appointment.

Oscar Pistorius FOUND GUILTY of Culpable Homicide | Watch LIVE

Oscar Pistorius

Blade Runner-Oscar Pistorius, 27, has been found guilty of culpable homicide equivalent to manslaughter in many jurisdictions over the Valentine’s Day shooting of his girlfriend- Reeva Steenkamp.

The maximum sentence for culpable homicide in South African law is 15 years, but there is no minimum sentence. The maximum possible sentence for the firearms charge of which Pistorius is guilty is five years.

Pistorius arrived at court surrounded by bodyguards and pushed his way through the throng of media to get inside the Pretoria High Court, presided over by Judge Thokozile Masipa who cleared him yesterday of premeditated murder and dolus eventualis (which is Latin for ‘indirect intent’).

Since Yesterday, several South African legal experts have spoken, disagreeing with Judge Thokozile Masipa.

Stephen Tuson, a law professor at Johannesburg’s University of Witwatersrand, said the state would arguably be able to appeal on dolus eventualis. Hetold Bloomberg News that ‘How can you shoot four bullets through a door and not foresee their death?’

Criminal lawyer Martin Hood reportedly said ‘I’m shocked. I think she’s going to get quite a lot of criticism from the judiciary and the legal system.

‘This could really open the door to systematic abuse of our legal system by people who shoot their partners and claim self-defence.

‘If someone can shoot in an irresponsible manner, and even in a negligent manner and not be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law, then it means that we are not able to use the law as a tool to address violent crime in this country.’

Prosecutor Gerrie Nel – who had mauled Pistorius so viciously as he struggled in the witness box – was last night said to be waiting for Judge Masipa to hand down her final verdicts, before considering an appeal on her interpretation of the law.

Though we do not expect to hear the sentencing today, Pistorius’ bail is being considered at the moment. Pistorius’s lawyer-Barry Roux argues that the athlete’s bail should be continued and that Pistorius was previously on bail for a very serious charge of premeditated murder and did not attempt to escape. Roux argues that there is therefore no reason not to continue with his bail.

Prosecution lawyer Gerrie Nel argues that Pistorius should not be granted bail.

After the lunch break, Judge Thokozile Masipa returned to decide on Oscar Pistorious’ bail—saying, Pistorious bail should continue on the same conditions until the day of sentencing. So Oscar is free to walk home and return to Court for his sentence.

Even though the defence conceded that the accused had been found guilty of a serious offence, it submitted that the State had not discharged the onus that it was not in the interest of justice that the accused’s bail be submitted, the judge said.

Interestingly, reporters familiar with South African Courts believe Oscar Pistorius won’t go to jail, partly because he’s a first time offender—so we are looking at suspended sentence or a FINE.

Sentencing is set for 13th October, 2014.

The Life Span of Ghanaian Movies: After Premieres & Then WHAT?

Nadia Buari at Movie Premeire
Nadia Buari at a Movie Premeire

We have so many good and bad productions each week coming out of what we boastfully call the Ghanaian Movie Industry—whether such an industry truly exist or not is a discussion for another boring day when I wake up with a headache.

Over the years, what I’ve realized about some of the great world movies is; they’ve durability when it comes to their viewing cycle, and some movies even live within certain quality hype longer than human beings. It may be sad to know that some movies have longer life span than human beings but it does happen—with some movies shot in the 90s still living in their full glory today.

A lot of things come to play when you talk about the life span of a movie with the first key elements being the quality of production, the storyline and more importantly, the well put together plans which go into many years ahead to give the movie a deserving life span.

Slowly, it seems some Ghanaian film-makers are playing with the production quality box but still lack the needed strength when it comes to those storylines which can fit into the future. Even the few good stories out there together with the increasing strength in production quality do not give Ghanaian movies any well deserving life span, beyond premieres.

Movie premieres have become so important in Ghana when you consider the life span of movies to the extent that, you sometimes have to asked yourself this; what did we use to do with our movies before the whole premiere booming season in Ghana? Can’t we look beyond the one day hype of our movies if they are worth anything and give these movies some sort of a live-on into the near future attire to wear?

In other parts of the world, premieres mostly begin the life of a movie—serving as the main outdooring event where the movie is unveiled, but the real life of the movie takes off after the premiere through its long weeks in the cinema, equally hyped DVD/Blue Ray release season, thereafter we see the online release and later on, it makes it into the few but important video shops for hiring and exchanges.

This week, I came across an online advertisement about a James Bond movie having been released on Netflix and for a minute, I thought a new Bond movie is out; so I was shocked as to where I’ve been sleeping to have missed the whole production completely. Then I realized, the ad was talking about SKYFALL, the last Bond movie we saw in 2012.
