The Oscar Pistorius case has most of the world held spellbound, and the delivery of the preliminary verdict had a lot of people scratching their heads.

Judge Thokozile Masipa found Pistorius guilty of the culpable murder charge, after absolving him of the more serious premeditated murder charge. Culpable murder is equivalent to manslaughter and holds a maximum sentence of fifteen years.

Now the parents of Reeva Steenkamp- his late girlfriend who was the unfortunate victim of the Valentine Day’s incident- June and Barry Steenkamp, have spoken out against the verdict, saying justice has not been served for their daughter.

Her Mom June, told NBC news that “This verdict is not justice for Reeva. I just want the truth; she died a horrible death”

“It was a horrible, painful, terrible death, and she suffered, you know? And he shot through the door and I can’t believe that they believe it was an accident”

“I just don’t feel that this is the right sentence, you know? They believe his story, and I don’t believe that story. That’s the difference”

Pistorius explanation was that he felt there was an intruder in the house, which is why he fired four times through the closed bathroom door. Obviously there was no intruder, it was his girlfriend Reeva, and her parents don’t seem to buy Oscar’s explanation.

And with the possibility that Pistorius could actually walk away without serving any jail time, you can see how that would rankle the Steenkamps so much. After all they lost their daughter, and they feel someone must be held responsible.

Barry Steenkamp echoed his wife’s sentiments when interviewed, saying there is a whole lot of disbelief at the verdict.

“It wasn’t just disbelief on our minds. I think it was disbelief on everyone’s, on most people who have been following the case”

“There is still something missing”. He later told ITV News. “I think there was more to the whole story, you know, coming up to the actual shooting, the killing”

With the verdict coming up on October 13, they were asked what they felt Pistorius’ punishment should be, but the Steenkamps said they were disinterested in the case going forward.

“I really don’t care what happens to Oscar” June Steenkamp said.

“It’s not going to change anything because my daughter is never coming back. He’s still leaving and breathing, you know, and she’s gone forever”

Oscar Pistorius, known as the blade runner, made history after he became the first Paralympics athlete to perform at the Olympic Games, after running in the 400 metres sprint in Beijing 2012. His fate would be known in a month’s time, when Judge Thokozile Masipa delivers her final verdict on the culpable homicide charge.
