Black Stars Management Committee Members Collected $557,000 As Appearance Fees

Ghana
Ghana

The Justice Dzamefe Presidential Commission continues their relentless search into the events surrounding the debacle known as Brazil 2014.

Several high profile personalities who were in one way or another associated with running Ghana’s appearance in Brazil has appeared, with some making startling revelations along the way. But as the committee gets closer to fulfilling their mandate, they are now interrogating people who were directly in charge of the Black Stars, and some juicy titbits are coming out as a result.

Acting General Secretary of the GFA Emmanuel Gyimah, took his turn in the hot seat today, and if Ghanaians are feeling nauseous by some of the revelations so far, Mr Gyimah’s own is enough to churn the stomach just a little bit more.

According to the FA General Secretary, he received an authority note from Kwesi Nyantakyi, which he presented to the accountant of the Sports Ministry, to cash $557,000 to be paid out as appearance fees to the members of the Black Stars management team.

The money, he said, was for the seven member management committee, with each member being entitled to $82,500. He said he delivered the cash to FA President, a management committee member himself, in Brazil.

Even more astounding was the fact that there were only five management committee members in Brazil, yet the note was for seven. Jordan Anagblah passed away a while ago, whilst Emmanuel Kyeremeh left the committee, and since then the Black Stars had been run by a five member team.

A Little Too Much

Thelma Louis

When I was thirteen, in secondary school form two and I had to manage a tin of milo for an entire month, I made a solemn promise to myself. I decided that when I grew up, and I had my own money I will drink at least five cups of thick milo everyday, waste one full tin of ideal milk in every cup, spread planta margarine in a loaf of hot tea bread and eat my heart out.

Twenty two years on, I earn Ghc4,735 a month after taxes, I drive a 2013 Toyota Corolla, I live in a beautiful house in East Legon, I travel business class at least once every year but I hate bread. I prefer tea with one cube sugar. Black.

So this particular night I am staring at my husband and wondering what happened to all those cravings I used to have for him when we first married five years ago. Because like my lack of hunger for thick milo, bread and butter I had no sexual desires whatsoever for this guy who once gave me multiple orgasms under ten minutes in the shower.

We were having our usual Friday girl’s hang out at our favorite restaurant. Serwaa Boateng had the floor. She was on her fifth glass of red wine, had let down her long natural locks and was not nearly done spewing her guts.

Luckily we had booked the private room on Monday so we had the space to ourselves. Five girls, all in our mid thirties, gainfully employed, two mothers, two wives, one divorcee, all in thriving relationships with attractive successful African men, all sexually frustrated.

‘For the second time in a row this week I had to imagine myself being hammered by a faceless dirty looking plumber to reach org*sm whiles my husband worked his skills on top of me’ Serwaa blurted out again. She was tipsy. Anytime now she was going to trip over her shoes lying nearby and succumb to gravity. I went to her and led her back to her seat. She laughed her frustration and asked for more wine.

Before Serwaa, most of the girls in the room had vented.

Obviously there were a lot more questions than answers. We were wondering why the cravings had changed. Why Fanta didn’t taste as good anymore? Why chicken and rice was nothing special at Christmas and why the hell did Piccadilly Biscuits tasted like chalk?

What is WRONG with Men of Today? | They Don’t Even Know How to Pick Up Women

feminista-jones-street-harassment

It is getting ridiculous on our streets and therefore I’ve decided to write about this—hoping to form allegiance with others on this issue.

For some reason, the new crop of men on our streets lack the skills and decency needed to pick up women and most of them are coming up as annoying birds.

The way some men carry themselves fits the word—harassment, and just yesterday, I nearly punched a guy in the face for all the stupid names he kept calling me, thinking those names will excite my ego.

I am a beautiful woman and I do not have a problem with men approaching men—either young or old. But my issue is with the details and the form the approach takes.

Instead of men walking to you and saying; Hello, ‘how are you’ or ‘may I have your number’, from afar; they shout; honey you look like a bomb. Worse, baby you looking hot, can I get your digits?

I do not mind if my man calls me honey, sweetheart, darling and throw any of those sweet words at me because they massage my ego but to have total strangers standing at bus stops or shouting these words from their cars upset me. Most times, I feel like punching them in the face.

Yesterday, after a long day at work while walking home, I heard several whistles behind me and instantly, I decided not to turn. This loser of a man continued with his whistling, as if I was some bird he was trying to get its attention.

Why I Married a Nigerian: A Ghanaian Woman’s Perspective on Nigeria- Part 2

black woman

Hello folks, I am back with more observations of my newly acquired country-Nigeria. Thanks for all the best wishes. Continue to remember me in your prayers and in the meantime let us continue on this wonderful journey of ours.

It’s the last Saturday of the month and I have so much to do today but I am stuck at home. Ask me why. Well, in Lagos, there is an environmental sanitation exercise every last Saturday of the month starting at seven in the morning. Residents are expected to stay in to clean their homes and surroundings. Trust me you do not want to be caught out. So I await patiently till after ten when I can finally step out.

In my previous piece I forgot to mention how respectful Nigerians are. Prostrating or curtsying is a norm when greeting your elders and the use of Sir and Ma are common. I found this so odd at first (thank God my in-laws are very understanding) with my westernized hi, hello and hugs but with time I learnt to appreciate it and found myself following suit at times. It creates a function of respect that exists between the different age groups which is admirable.

Two weeks ago, I went to braid my hair and was very excited hearing people refer to me as Aunty and Ma. It made me feel important and respected (brushing my shoulders lol). One thing that struck me was the encouragement and empathy shown by the ladies as they braided my hair. “Well done Ma”. “Sorry Ma”. I wondered what I had actually done to deserve this praise and affection but it does add to great customer service. I did not hesitate to tip them once they were done.

I have been to a number of Nigerian homes as well as hotels and restaurants (eateries) and one thing that struck me was their preference for yam for breakfast and this is normally served with egg stew, palm oil stew or fried whole egg with some sauce on the side. At this juncture, I must say that my husband has been very understanding as he never complains when I serve him English breakfast. I am however gradually adapting this Nigerian style which ensures that one gets the needed amount of energy to start the day.

The first time I drove within Lagos (the bourgeois part though), I was impressed by how easy it was to reach my destination due to proper street naming and placements of street signs. Nothing like, ‘when you reach the orange seller turn right’ or ‘after that large MTN advertisement board, count three junctions to your left after which you will see a green story building’ lol. Names of the various streets corresponded perfectly with that of Google Maps.

This is just by the way but I woke up this morning yearning for waakye (rice and beans) with all its condiments- talia (sautéed spaghetti), wele (cow hide), gari, leaves and shito (Ghanaian black pepper sauce). Yes, and with some fried plantain on the side. I know some of you feel my pain.

Nigerian Pastor Says There Can Be No Justification for Abortion: Even Life Threatening Situations

WTF
WTF

Sometimes people take unreasonable stances on issues due to their indoctrination; stances that defy all the laws of logic and reasoning.

There are a few instances where beliefs override reason, and people have stuck to their beliefs till they get to a point of no return. Instances like that can yield disastrous results.

That’s the road being encouraged by Nigerian pastor E.A Adeboye, general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG). According to him, there can be no justification for abortion.

Doctors sometimes recommend abortion in situations where the birth might be threatening to the health of either the mother or the baby, or both.

Adeboye though says even that cannot justify a Christian having an abortion. If you believe in God, you should go ahead and refuse the abortion, and a miracle would come your way.
