Boko Haram Attacks Towns in Nigeria Barely a Day After Announcing Ceasefire

Disturbing news from Nigeria as reports indicate Boko Haram has launched attacks on two states in Nigeria just days after reaching an agreement with the Government for a ceasefire.

ThisDay reports the two north eastern states of Borno and Adamawa were the recipients of random attacks by Boko Haram militants which led to the deaths of ‘scores of people’.

Boko Haram militants invaded the township of Makidari in military vehicles, and are reported to have fired sporadically into people’s houses.

In Michia, the terrorists overrun the village; burning people’s houses to the ground, and many residents were forced to flee.

Many others are believed to have died in the attacks, but the biggest shock is that this should be a big setback for the newly announced ceasefire.

Considering that deal was also supposed to lead to the release of the over 200 abducted schoolgirls, the flouting of the terms of the agreement barely a day after it was signed does not bode well for the group honouring the agreement.

But everything Boko Haram has done so far shows a little regard for rules and logic, so such a turn of events whilst unfortunate, can hardly be described as surprising.
