Let me begin by stating that anybody who missed Saturday’s musical concert that was put together by these three strong brands – Hennessy, Starr FM, and Empire Entertainment – has got nobody to blame aside him/herself.
With a fully charged atmosphere filled with Africa’s premium musicians, what more was expected from the organizers than an exhilarating show. If there’s any word that can be used to describe the Hennessy Artistry Concert, that word is ‘superb’. Yes indeed, the show was superb. You know why? The subsequent paragraphs will answer that.
If there’s something that makes an entertainment show interesting, then it has to do with the impressive performances exhibited by the entertainers. This was not far from what was experienced at the Hennessy Artistry Concert.
I have not for once had the opportunity to watch South Africa’s music group-Mafikizolo (of Khona fame), perform live on stage before. By kind courtesy of Hennessy, Star FM, and Empire Entertainment, this was made possible.
Even though it was the group’s first ever performance in Ghana, they were able to outshine the rest of the artistes billed for the night with regards to their splendid stage act (something that I will write about in a different piece comparing it to the stage acts of Ghanaian musicians).
Experience, they say, is the best teacher. Experience coupled with hardwork, I say, is the key to success. If there are musicians who have over the years gained experience in the music industry, 2face Idibia is undoubtedly one of them.
He proved why he is a genius in the music terrain on the night. The kind of acts put on a display was so touching, knowing exactly when to connect emotionally with the audience, and how to blend different songs together.
Music is an art, so whoever wishes to be one ought to know the various tactics to get to his/her audience. A little bit of comedy was incorporated by the ‘African Queen’ hit maker which as well did some ‘magic’ for him, making the audience go gaga.
The combination of Volta Regime Music Group boss, Edem and Ghana’s fastest English rapper – Gemini – was one of a kind. Their musical dexterity, rap flows, movements on stage, as well as concept of the song performed together made me realize that all hope is not lost; and as a matter of fact there are quite a number of serious rappers out here in Ghana.
Safety is very paramount, yet myriads of event organizers take the safety of patrons for granted, exposing them to dangers. The Hennessy Artistry Concert was definitely not one of such shows. Even though I will not rate them 90 or 100% with regards to security issues, I will still commend them for their exertion.
Quite a great number of vantage points were safeguarded by security personnel to ensure the smooth running of the event. Without them, I guess the patrons would have exceeded their boundaries.
Areas to Pay Attention and Work on Them
Nothing, I mean in the field of event organizing, can be excellently achieved without errors. Even the very best event organizing companies cannot organize a concert and get everything right. Definitely, there will be some downs.
Although the Hennessy Artistry Concert was one of a kind, there are still areas that need to be looked at and work on them in their subsequent shows.
The main issue has to do with a designated stand for the press, including photographers. At most organized events, the media has designated places where all their activities take place. It wasn’t so in this instance.
Photographers had to choose their own convenient places and take their shots. To get better shots, they had to come all the way from the back to the front – right in front of the stage.
Even though they tried their very best to avoid blocking the views of patrons who had paid to watch, they weren’t successfully all the time.
It would be great if this area is worked on—next time.
All said and done, only these few words – the Definition of True Entertainment – can perfectly describe the Hennessy Artistry Concert.
