This year’s edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, organised by Charter House, was characterised by some levels of controversy. Even before the awards event was held, some gurus in the entertainment industry punched holes in the awards schemes.

One area in which some entertainment analysts thought the event organises got it all wrong was the ‘New Artiste of the Year’ category. The category included Kumi Guitar, Akwaboah, and Joey B. These three are music artistes some entertainment analysts thought were already in the music industry; therefore shouldn’t be classified as new artistes.

From what we thought was capable enough in suppressing the growth of the musicians involved due to the controversial nature of the issue, Kumi Guitar has come out to state that it rather made him a bit popular.

Speaking to Sammy Flex on Santa Maria-based radio station, Pluzz FM, Kumi pointed out that lot of Ghanaians did not really know who he was, although they might have heard his popular track – Break into Two.

According to him, majority of Ghanaians began looking out for who he really was during the Ghana Music Awards controversy period. If not because of the hullabaloo, lot of people would not have come to know him by now.

After the release of ‘Break into Two’, Kumi has been featured on substantial number of tracks by different artistes. He is currently working on his music videos to thrill his fans.
