The Hypocrisy of Ghanaians & the Media: Ama Boahenmaa Has BLEACHED Yet Yvonne Nelson Has Not?

I really didn’t want to write anything on the Ama Boahenmaa bleaching saga, which gained prominence when she recently appeared in a video interview—looking fairer than she is known to be.

Social media and many of our mainstream media houses in Ghana have been throwing all manner of jabs at the Gospel musician who sort of claims she has become fairer because she lives abroad and ridiculously, because she drinks more MILK.

She must be drinking cat milk—I guess.

My issue with the whole Ama Boahenmaa ‘bashing’ is the fact that, many of us are hitting on her with a video or photo as evidence—and because she lives abroad, I can confidently say none of our media men based in Ghana has seen her in recent times.

Yet, Yvonne Nelson walks around Accra all bleached up and also gives out the same ridiculous excuses such as; she is of a Brazilian descent and that is why she is slowly becoming fairer. Her genes are gradually noticing her Brazilian descent—and also, she uses the ordinary coco butter. She started by saying her colour has changed because of good living and the fact that she is always out and about in an air-condition car has been a huge contribution.

There is no difference between Ama Boahemaa’s absurd claims and that of Yvonne Nelson. The two are shameful bleachers with no sense of responsibilities. Yet, Yvonne Nelson walks into the offices of many media houses in Ghanan each week and none is able to boldly stamp down her excuses and tell her to the face that, you’ve bleached your butt off so stop the lies.

However, we’ve descended so heavily on Ama Boahenmaa who is thousands of miles away—perhaps simply because she is a Gospel singer—and a weaker individual, incapable of launching assaults at her critics.

Ama Boahenmaa has bleached her butt out—and so has Yvonne Nelson and the several Ghanaian young celebrities we meet every day at various events.

What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.

If calling Yvonne Nelson out for bleaching amounts to hating, then doing the same to Ama Boahenmaa is certainly hating—at best, hypocrisy…

Quoting A-Plus,  we have ‘Dansoman Broni‘ right in our faces and we are over looking that to attack on someone faraway in Europe.

Anyway, for those who have not seen Ama Boahenmaa’s recent video interview, check it out below…

      • I agree! None of them shd be left alone. If they are brave enough to bleach then they should be bold enough to admit it. Several ladies and even men look up to the bleachers, if the admirers see such drastic change of housing, won’t they also start doing the same? Aden!!!!

  9. no amount of campaign or awareness will make pple change their mind abt skin bleaching. google has a list of african american celebrities who have bleached their skin. skin bleaching is a personal choice however individuals have to tell the truth. Ama Boahemaa use to be a mobo mobo singer as somebody said on one of the Gh blogs. she is now on top of the world.

The hate and insults from u and ur minions including other media houses is not enough for u??? But come to think of it chris I don’t get u ooh, and I don’t think I ever will understand u. Why should media houses stamp down on her for choices she made for herself???(i wish a nigga would) U sound soo angry as I read this article and I understand why… If YN is bleaching, is it ur skin? NO….. is it my skin? NO… we can all agree it’s not our skin YN is bleaching so why do u go to sleep and wake up with thoughts of a grown woman’s choices affecting u? YN is an adult, who makes decisions on her own…If she chooses to bleach and not admit it, that’s YN’s business. Now can u leave her aloooooone?? Daaaaammnn Ur sooo consumed in this girl’s life, it’s even scary at this point, not healthy at all.

Skin bleaching did not begin with YN and it won’t end with her, growing up i see women bleach all the time, heck even men. So what makes it different from now? The issue here is what we learn from home, I know I’m black with dark skin which is what I was born with. To me there’s no other choice (even tho there are, such as bleaching) but that’s how I see it. My mom would wash me, dry me, and iron me if I did that at a young age,(like girls are doing now) and guess what? I still grew up with that knowledge of knowing this is who i am and suppose to be…an African woman with a dark skin, cant change that whether I like my skin or not. However whatever a grown woman decides to do with her skin should be her own burden. Bleaching has consequences or effects just as anything or actions….and sooner or later, anybody who bleaches will start to feel that. So should they be left alone to do what they want with their skin?? Heck yeah…. but for the meantime, start teaching ur children(girls) that bleaching isn’t the way to go. Urs should be important to you not YN and Ama Boahemaa.

  15. I am surprised people are solely concentrating on the change in her appearance instead of the content of her interview. Her story is awe-inspiring! It truly shows the human strength per the glory of God.
