Dog Meat

Few days ago GC reporter-Osarfo Anthony filed a report after visiting Bolgantanga where he shockingly came to know that, dog meat was patronized out there more than fish, chicken or any other meat.

Today, it has emerged that, dog meat sellers at the Sunyani market in the Brong Ahafo region are appealing to government for support.

Are we now turning Ghana into a country of dog eaters to the extent that we are asking the government to support these rare taste buds some people have?

According to the butchers, the dog meat business can be the mainstay of Ghana’s economy if given the needed support to expand their business, reports Adom FM.

How is the dog meat market going to this?

I Didn’t Know Yellow Fever Attacks People with European Passports ONLY | My Ordeal at the Kotoka International Airport

Kotoka Airport
Kotoka Airport

Travelling into Ghana with any other passport apart from the ECOWAS travel document comes with a lot of hustle—and even at the airport, officials take a little more interest in you if your passport is different.

Let me make it clear that, I have no problem with officials at the Kotoka International Airport doing their jobs—that is, if it is to ask those coming into the country about their Yellow Fever vaccination status by checking if they have in their possession the famous yellow card.

My problem lies with the obvious inconsistency in the way these checks are being done at the airport, picking on those with foreign passports alone—as if anyone with an ECOWAS (or a Ghanaian passport) has an automatic immunity from the disease and therefore does not have to get the vaccine, even if the person’s place of residence is Europe or America.

I recently travelled to Ghana for a 4-day meeting and after acquiring the needed Ghanaian visa at a short notice, I didn’t think I needed any vaccination—majorly because I was there for just 4 days and I did not even have the time to chase a vaccination.

I was surely putting my health at risk and so were the many Ghanaians (Ghanaian passport holders) I travelled with on the same plane who resided in Europe—and did not take the vaccination.

As done in almost every airport, the passport you hold determines the queue you join—and with signs putting ECOWAS passport holders in one lane and other nationals in another, I had to walk away from a couple I met on the plane.

Fun Times Turn Sour: Playful Exchange Between Two friends Ends in the Death of One

Lord have mercy
Lord have mercy

Good friends often have their playful routines, little things that have taken time to nurture and which are often done by rote, instantaneously whenever they meet.

The playful routine of two friends in Kwesimintsim, a suburb of Takoradi, seems to have been taken just a touch too far, ending in the death of one of them whilst the other guiltily fled.

Graphic Online reports Maame Mensah stabbed her very good friend Papa Kwesi, whilst the two were involved in what eyewitnesses described as ‘a usual light-hearted gig between two friends’.

Maame was peeling cassava for her evening meal in front of her family house when Papa Kwesi appeared on a motorbike, drinking a sachet of water.

Upon emptying the water out of the sachet, Papa Kwesi playfully threw the sachet at Maame, whose response was just a little bit over the top.

Ghanaian actress – Joselyn Dumas – on Thursday November 6, 2014 teamed up with ‘Forces Help Ghana’ (FHG), a Foundation set up by Ghanaian born British army officers, to clean Kotobabi township.

The clean-up exercise, which involved the services of Zoomlion and the community members, was a move initiated by the actress to embolden Ghanaians to keep their surroundings clean. This, according to her, “will go a long way in eradicating the outbreak of cholera in the country.”

As part of the clean-up exercise, Miss Dumas and a public health nurse from the La Polyclinic encouraged and educated the community members on the need to always keep their locality unpolluted.

“We as citizens of Ghana do not need to embark on something big before we can do away with cholera. It’s the little things like washing our hands with soap any time we visit the lavatory & before we eat, cleaning our surroundings frequently, and disposing of garbage at the right places that matter” Joselyn stated.

One of the concerns raised by the community members is how difficult it is for them in finding a place to attend nature’s call when there is the need to do so. They therefore called on Miss Dumas to carry their message across to the government.

Ama Boahenmaa to Sue Anyone Accusing Her of Bleaching? | Asamoah Gyan, Yvonne Nelson, Daddy Lumba & the Others May Do So Too…

Gospel musician-Ama Boahemaa
Gospel musician-Ama Boahemaa

I am not aware of any civil wrong or criminal offense a person commits by merely pointing out the truth about another, especially a public figure, yet, Gospel musician-Ama Boahenmaa seems to think she can drag people to court and slap them with a lawsuit for accusing her of bleaching…

Let me stop being silly and try to understand what Ama Boanhenmaa is saying. She stands on her grounds that she has NOT bleached or has not subjected her complexion to any sort of alteration—therefore, those accusing her of doing so are wrongly accusing her.

Perhaps, she has forgotten the Judge she will meet in Court has eyes too—and will see the obvious.

In fact, one of the defences of defamation is TRUTH so I am not sure how she will be able to sue anyone for saying the obvious truth.
