Rev. Owusu Ansah Begs President Mahama to Forgive Kwaw Kese & Intervene | Perhaps He Has Never Heard of the INDEPENDENCE OF THE JUDICIARY

I do not think much of many of the people bearing the title ‘Reverend’ these days but having read that Rev. Owusu Ansah is also the Head of Religious Broadcast at Multimedia Group Limited—and having made the below uninformed statement makes me a little worried.

According to PeaceFmOnline.Com, Rev. Owusu Ansah has somehow managed to bring President Mahama into the arrest/detention of Kwaw Kese by appealing to the head of State to intervene and forgive the musician who is currently facing narcotic related charges.

“I am not with the sin…but I am with the sinner who is already going through a lot in his life after the death of his manager, Fennec Okyere. Mr. President, please intervene and forgive Kwaw Kese” Rev, Owusu Ansah said.

Perhaps, I am the one with a thick understanding here; what has the President got to do with this issue? And is Rev. Owusu Ansah not aware of the most important doctrine on which democracy, rule of law and accountability is built-independence of the judiciary?

How on earth should anyone even suggest that the President who is the head of the Executive in a country like Ghana with clear separation of powers should poke his nose—not just his nose, intervene in the affairs of the judiciary?

If anything must be done, the legal team of Kwaw Kese must re-consider their arguments for bail…

  2. A nation full of ostriches and built on the foundation of indescribably alarming hypocrisy….. While America and many other enlightened countries such as Holland, Germany, Belgium, France, Australia , India , check republic etc, are busily reviewing their laws that criminalize marijuana usage, we’re sitting our poverty stricken ass’s out here and busily criminalizing it…are we now purporting to be wiser than these afore mentioned countries? If we indeed are wiser, then the questions still remains , why do we run to them for help in the management of our economy and for the provision of very basic social amenities such as water and light which we haven’t been able to provide for ourselves after many years of being a so called independent country, I started using cannabis since I was 15 and now I’m 29 years still remaining an Educated, hard working , self sufficient and responsible citizen…I have personally not realized any ill effects from the use of cannabis sativa …which is an ancient herb discovered by Chinese Emperor Shen Nung in 2727 B.C. Ancient Greeks and Romans were also familiar with cannabis, while in the Middle East, use spread throughout the Islamic empire to North Africa. So folks thats a little history to refresh our memory, extensive research has proved beyond all reasonable doubt that cannabis sativa, though having tested positive for its hallucinatory ingredient , is not a causative factor of mental disorders Which is the main argument against the use of GANJA, else I believe the Bob marley’s , Joseph hill’s , burning spears and even our own shatta wale, samini and Kwawkesse would’ve have been mad long ago…. Major conditions that triggers mental disorders include heredity/ genetics, biological disorders, environmental stressors and psychological traumas… This is the Age of Enlightenment guess it’s about time we lose ourselves from the mental slavery, we all do know the adverse effects of alcohol yet it is openly advertised and distributed in almost every corner of our country, are you surprised with number of accidents on our roads? The bottom line is marijuana is a herb, and just like many other drugs on the market from chloroquine to amodaiquine …. Some people may have reactions after it’s usage, it doesn’t mean however that those drugs must be criminalized … Let’s remove the cobwebs in our heads and think straight just like our foreign compatriots and regulate the use of marijuana from which taxes could be derived for revenue generation in order to aid our development as a country rather than the easiest and laziest Option of imposing further taxes on the already overloaded petroleum products….since it’s obviously gonna remain in High demand until the end of time….STOP criminalizing and incarcerating innocent users of this Ancient herb because there is no moral or scientific justification for doing so …ironically the lady who exported 12.5 kilos of cocaine was aided by these same security officials….. So help we God! FREE KWAWKESSE

  3. Mr. Vincent, I guess the same constitution that emphasizes the need for separation of powers and independence of the 3 arms of Government namely the executive, legislature & judiciary , also gives the president enough powers to grant a presidential pardon in some instances… Many are those that that have been convicted for various crimes… Yet have been granted a presidential pardon and didn’t have to serve their full jail term , but that can only happen after conviction… The wheels of justice must be allowed to grind to its logical conclusion so I agree the Rev must’ve jumped the gun, but I believe Its nothing more than appeal…the President can issue a white paper after a case has been determined….that doesn’t amount to interference…. I strongly make a call to all Ghanians to hit the streets in demand of a review of the obnoxious provision that denies a suspected narcotic offender bail.. Weed must be expunged from the list of drugs covered under that specific provision , the law is a living organism and must always be reasonably applied, the fact is that a dozen more Ghanians are using cannabis in several forms for varied purposes, ranging from medicinal to recreational purposes. We must begin to look at ways of regulating its usage and not dumping people in jail for smoking a simple Joint….until 1961 it was an offense for a black man to sit on the same row with a white man in a bus in the USA , but when times change, we must change with it, the constitution of the USA has seen a lot of reforms to the point where a Black Family is now occupying the White House…. Cheers.
