Though Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts is a good friend of Peace FM presenter, Kwami Sefa Kayi, this time round, she decided to put friendship aside and hit the nail hard on the head for the right thing to be done.

There is this Akan word called ‘sebe’ which is often used before one says anything disrespectful, foul, weird or disparaging at another especially in public or in the midst of elderly ones. For some reason, some people deliberately mean to spew ‘garbage’ but they often hide behind this ‘sebe’ cultural term and throw out chilly words at others.

One Peace FM’s Kokroko show, one of the panelists ended up using the word nonsense as though he was on weed but deliberately kept saying ‘sebe’ – thinking all who are listening to him are obtuse minded who cannot read between the lines.

Honourable Dzifa who was not happy at what happened on air, again, took to her Facebook wall to hit hard at Kwami Sefa Kayi and Peace FM. Obviously, she has a problem with the use of the word ‘sebe’ which has been used by our forefathers since AD and she expressed it.

“Help me understand. So if you are a host of a show, manager of a programme, or owner of a business and you will not say “nkwaseasem” yourself on your show, why will you have a guest say it. Is it because they proceed with “sebe”? I have asked this before…will you accept your child saying same to you because they say sebe.”

She added: “On Peace Fm right now…” what nonsense” ” nkwaseasem” etc have been used with careless abandon. Is it freedom of speech or a show of bravado….. The style of presentation is key! Come on Kwame Sefa Kayi! You have the power to change this trend.”

Though the Deputy Minister is right and meant no harm, one argument that critics of hers always put across each time she makes such remarks at those she don’t agree with is – why don’t she call the person involved behind the scene and harsh things out, rather than using social media?

She did same when Komla Dumor died – said Komla’s stature is akin to Nelson Mandela and Kwasi Pratt had to chide her properly. She ate in leaves with cutleries on her official table, snapped it and posted on her Facebook wall – professing she is depicting our culture but ended up being pooh-poohed.

Most recent one was when she jabbed actress Nikki Samona via her Facebook wall for wearing a dress that exposed half of her ‘okro’ breasts at an event. Is Honourable Dzifa Gomashie an ATTENTION SEEKER at all? Share your thought on this NO nonsense Deputy Minister of ours but mind you – no insults. Until then…MOTWUM!!
