Three Children Drown In Eastern Region Because They Were Swimming To School- In A Country That Dashes Its Footballers Cars For Winning Nothing

OMG
OMG

You see, the problem with this country has always been priorities. It’s not that we do not have the resources; it’s that the resources are misused and mismanaged whilst areas of real need are neglected consistently leading to needless and senseless tragedies like this one.

Children in New Asuoyaa in the Eastern Region are forced to swim across the Densu river everyday if they want to go to school. The situation, according to myjoyonline, has led to three children dying whilst making that passage, just within the past year alone.

According to the report, the footbridge across the river has been broken for years now, and numerous attempts to get the relevant authorities to carry out its renovation have fallen on deaf ears.

Somehow a situation like this is occurring, a project whose cost is minuscule in comparison to the funds this country can raise- yet it lies dormant and prematurely kills our future leaders whilst those in charge sleep soundly in their air-conditioned, ‘dumsorless’ rooms.

On top of that, when accountability is demanded the Ministers then have the audacity to call the questions ‘useless’. See how much has been spent on this AFCON alone, compounded with the news that the government is procuring Jeeps for the team when they’ve already been compensated well enough for finishing second in a tourney they should have won.

Every single one of our issues as a nation can be traced back to this misplaced priorities, issue; well that and corruption and just plain incompetence. There are children like these going through this kind of situation’s, and even worse- and yet our leaders continue to neglect these in favour of issues that lack a 1000th of the urgency they show towards trivial issues.

  2. The government in Ghana have really got their priorities messed up. How can you be dashing to footballers who aren’t going to help Ghana in anyway but cannot afford to spend money on books, updated classrooms and technology, lower or get rid of school fees and PTA money, better living conditions for those in boarding school and so on. Such as shame because these children have a lot of potential but oh no they have to deal with inadequate, horny and badmind teachers. The school system in Ghana is a disgrace, 2015 and children have to SWIM to school.
