With the movie awards season out of the way, it’s time to look ahead to the rest of the year and see what film treats we have awaiting us.

Avengers – The Age of Ultron

Marvel is swiftly becoming the go-to name for summer blockbusters. And with the release of the next instalment of the Avengers franchise due later this year, it seems that Marvel will want to top the amazing $330 million it made in America alone from Guardians of the Galaxy last year.

So far the Age of Ultron promises all of the intense action that we’ve come to expect from this series with the superheroes tackling a crime-fighting robot gone haywire called Ultron.

It will feature all of the big names you’d expect such as Scarlett Johansson, James Spader and Robert Downey Jr reprising his role of Tony Stark – clearly not one for resting after his Iron Man character recently featured on a slot machine game courtesy of Black Diamond Casino.

One film that could give Marvel a run for their money is the highly anticipated Star Wars – The Force Awakens. This latest instalment looks certain to deliver fans more lightsabres, X-wing fighters and stormtroopers, and will hopefully whitewash all living memory of Jar Jar Binks!

Fresh from his excellent work of successfully rebooting the Star Trek franchise, director J.J. Abrams will hope to give this series a much needed shot in the arm with his blend of excitement, humour and natural story-telling.

Spectre

Another familiar face that looks to return in 2015 is James Bond in Spectre. The film will see Daniel Craig making his fourth outing as Bond and the routinely excellent Christopher Waltz will star as the arch-villain Franz Oberhauser.

As Spectre won’t be released until November, details are still somewhat vague. But it has been noted that filming has taken place in London, Rome, Mexico City and the Austrian Alps, and that the film will feature some of Bond’s classic cars in the form of a revamped Aston Martin.

Terminator: Genisys

And finally, it looks like the Terminator will pay us another visit this summer with the return of Arnold Schwarzenegger as the futuristic killing machine.

Terminator: Genisys promises to give the series a much needed reboot after the disappointing Terminator 3. And with Game of Thrones’ Alan Taylor in the director’s chair, it could signal a brave new reinvention of this iconic science fiction film series.
