Irish Bishop Compares Being Gay To Down’s Syndrome | Saying Neither is Part Of God’s Plans

God
God

One of the questions that always boggles non-religious people is how God, with all the attributes given to him concerning his omnipotence and omniscience- can have so much imperfections in his creation.

Actor and renowned atheist Stephen Fry put it so eloquently in a recent television interview. “Bone cancer in children? How dare you?” He said he’d ask if he ever came face to face with God.

Bishop Kevin Doran had some answers for Fry, though he was talking about a totally different issue. An upcoming referendum is set to ask Irish voters to decide on legalising same-sex marriage, and the Bishop is calling on the populace to reject the bill, according to RawStory.

According to him, since homosexual couples could not procreate, a union of two of them cannot be a marriage. Then the bombshell, the host asked that since some people were born gay, isn’t that what God intended?

“That’s to suggest that some people who were born with Down’s syndrome or spina bifida, that that was what God intended”

Leaving aside the fact that he just compared homosexuality to disabilities, the admission that things can happen without God intending opens a whole different can of worms. It implies God is fallible, which then cannonballs away his entire omnipotence and all those other outlandish attributes.

Of course religious people do not see it like that. The Bishop’s next line is “I’m just saying it would be wrong to suggest that everything that happens, happens because God intended it. If that were the case, we’d be talking about a very different kind of God”

Exactly, one that is as wicked as the Old Testament portrays, but whose nature Christians refuse to admit- or the more likely assertion that he does not exist at all.

Either God is infallible, and creates people with Down’s syndrome and bone cancer and homosexuality for unfathomable reasons, or he’s fallible and undeserving of all the adoration lavished on him.

You can’t have it both ways.
