When the Devil Came to Steal: The Dollar Evangelical Jet

Firework of dollars
Dollar

When Creflo Dollar (his surname does say a lot about him though) via his website appealed for funds to buy a $65m jet to “…continue reaching a lost and dying world for the Lord Jesus Christ….” And oh how I was so pleased when he received the bashing of his life that he had to quickly cancel (or put it on hold) his get campaign; that to me is a very good step in the direct direction. This man is not going to travel to the end of the world preaching the gospel. The furthest he may go is Europe to connive with his associates on how to own the next car!

From his appeal, what he was actually telling us was:

“A man of God like me and my wife should never suffer any discomfort while doing the mighty and gracious work of God. We are too special to spend time waiting in the airport and in queues like other normal people. As God has promised us, we will never be the tail but always be the head and that is why we’re rightly called a man/woman of God. If you have a problem, go and question God….” (The book according to Creflo Dollar chapter $65m jet vs. critics/media).

If you didn’t find the appeal insulting – then you need a brain check because it reeks of ‘insulting people’s intelligence’!

Known for always preaching the prosperity gospel, I bet he didn’t know it was going to backfire otherwise he would have prepared very well for the outburst. He dreamt of sitting by his swimming pool in his luxurious home sipping juice and refreshing his page to see how much he has raised so far but it alas didn’t happen.

Christians are getting smart/or are smart now (apart from Africans of course) and can easily detect scam even in the most sophisticated English. A man who has sense and very analytical (without a car to his name) will not be too eager to donate even a dollar to buy a jet. You don’t steal when cameras are watching – do you?

My problem is not the owning of jet, he’s not the first and won’t be the last – but seeking for donations to buy it as if he’s raising money for a prominent charity. The church’s main duty is charity not garnering wealth and more wealth. Imagine what $65m would do; preaching to the hungry, dejected, homeless and the sick is not going to yield any results – they need food, warmth and shelter.

On a lighter note, this man could have made that money in Africa – easily because in Africa, we have been brainwashed  to the highest degree that  people who do not have will manage to cough out the money even if it means giving their children’s fees – after all the jet will be used for the work of God. They don’t mind he is extremely wealthy – they will give. It really saddened my heart when someone compared buying a jet to building a church auditorium claiming ‘churches appeal for funds for building projects so what is the big deal in appealing for a private jet.

If he wants to spread the gospel all over the world – he can stick to his televangelism; those who have the means of carrying the gospel around the world can pick it up from there. OR he should learn the smart ways of making money the African style (prophecies, miracles, healing). Alternatively, his equally corrupt African pastors can ‘lend’ theirs to him if it’s needed badly.

But you know what – I won’t be surprised if that jet is bought. He realised he did a bad job the first time so he’ll prepare very well next time. This one was done in a very disgusting way!

If he says he’s taking the gospel to Syria and its environs – maybe I’ll donate £2 because every little helps!
