Ghana’s two most storied clubs, Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko are both in continental club championship action this weekend.

It’s been a while since this two represented Ghana in Africa together, and having so far skipped a couple hurdles fans would hope they would continue on for a few more rounds.

Starting from the Confederations Cup, maiden Champions Accra Hearts of Oak are against all odds still in the competition, and travel to Senegal to face Olympique de Ngor at the M’bour stadium.

With a slender 2-1 lead from the first leg, the Phobians would need a better performance if they are to claim their second consecutive continental scalp. They eliminated Benin’s AS Police in the initial round.

In woeful form domestically, the hope is that top scorer Gilbert Fiamenyo can find his groove, to send them to the next round as they try to emulate the title winning squad of 2004.

Kick off is 1700 GMT on Saturday, April 4.

Asante Kotoko on the other hand, are in action in the CAF Champions league. Their obstacle to qualification is the Algerian side MC El Eulma.

They secured a goalless draw in the first leg in El Eulma, and would need a convincing win to make doubly sure of making the next round.

This would be new coach David Duncan’s maiden continental assignment with Kotoko, having won all three of the games he’s presided over so far. An experienced campaigner, fans would hope his savvy would rub off on this disappointing Kotoko team and send them through.

Asante Kotoko-MC El Eulma, comes off at the Baba Yara sports stadium on Sunday, April 5. Kickoff is at 1500 GMT.
