Almost all churches in Ghana are organizing religious programs to mark the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. For the many Christians out there, it is a time of celebration because the Messiah has cleansed them from their inherited sins, giving them the hope of hooking up with God in heaven someday.

Amidst these celebrations lie the many travels for church programs; and this is where I find it worrying. Does one need to travel to any special place before commemorating the Easter or before his/her prayers will be heard?

Recently, we have reported on two separate accidents that claimed the lives of some people who were returning from church programs.

The latest to hit the news is an accident that has claimed the lives of 8 Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) members who were on their way from a church program.

According to TV3, the unfortunate incident occurred on the Kumasi – Mampong road around 4:00pm on Saturday.

Narrating the incident, the Agona Police District Commander, Francis Kwesi Asante, said the church members were in a fleet of 3 three vehicles, including a taxi, when the mishap occurred. He said, “At some point of the journey, the taxi attempted to overtake the two vehicles-the sprinter and the Mazda- but was faced with the fatal possibility of a head-on collision with an oncoming truck.

The driver of the sprinter vehicle which was leading the convoy, in an attempt to save the situation had to quickly apply his brakes to allow the taxi to maneuver.

In his attempt, the Madza vehicle which was trailing bumped into the sprinter and both vehicles veered off the road and fell into a ditch.”

As it stands, some of the members are on admission at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, and Ankaful receiving treatment.
