It happened to the sacked Deputy Minister-Victoria Hammah when during a speech, she stopped to say that what she was reading was not the speech she edited. Obviously, someone had tampered with her speech or she could not simply find her speech.
For a few days now, President Mahama’s disaster at the opening of the 47th Ordinary Session of ECOWAS has become the talk of the town and surprisingly, media outlets like the one below and certain people are failing to see the incompetence behind this, rather applauding the President for the obvious disgrace.
So if a President cannot find the last two pages of his speech and he decides to continue by having a general conversation about the topic; is that something to be celebrated? Shouldn’t we be worried about where the last two pages disappeared to—and who was responsible for the mess?
The fact that this has repeated itself in President Mahama’s administration is just not a mere coincidence, it shows how incompetent many of the people working in the administration are. For this, we cannot say the President is totally innocent; at least he should have spotted that the last two pages were missing before mounting the stage…
The one who should bare the huge blame and his or her head cut off is the person who was in charge of making sure the papers were intact for the president.
It’s pretty shocking and awful, yet we seem to miss the main conversation with newspapers like the one below turning the mess into a whole different thing. How long will we ignore incompetence in Ghana?

When you suffer such a massive embarrassment as a president in front of other presidents and dignitaries, it is not easy to regain your composure in a matter of seconds like JM did. He didn’t just say okay, thank you, bye bye, enjoy the conference. He spoke off the top of his head for at least another 8 -10mins, that’s why he was applauded. The other presidents seated there knew exactly how they would have felt if the same fate had befallen them so they were beyond astounded at the recovery.
I am not a fan of JM but the way he handled this situation and gained his balance quickly earned my respect.
I also dont do partisan politics but i agree with what you saying.
Asking if loosing pages in his speech and then starting a conversation requested for applauds isnt something to be asked. There was tension so that was all they could have done to ease him off the pressure. What else would he have done aside from starting a conversation? frowned? say bye and leave with such embarrassment? Well I dont think so. He did what a reasonable person could have done. You still have to move on no matter what. This also indicated the level of irresponsibility and incompetence in his administration that is why our beloved country is suffering as such. I mean what is the duty of the one who handles the President’s speeches? If this is your duty and you cant perform it then they have failed Ghanians.
