The national U-23 men’s team the Black Meteors took another step closer to qualification to Rio 2016 with a closely fought 1-0 win over Congo Brazzaville’s Olympic team.

Congo presented a sterner test than Liberia in the first round but ultimately they were also dispatched, although not emphatically enough to render the second leg a moot game.

Winger Ebo Andoh got the only goal of the encounter in the 45th minute of the game at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The second leg comes off next weekend in Brazzaville, with the winner to progress to the next stage of a qualifying process that is far from over.

Interestingly, Congo coach Claude LeRoy accused Ghana of age cheating, according to a report on myjoyonline.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Leroy, Ghana coach when we hosted the 2008 African Cup of Nations, claimed he knew some of the players during his time in Ghana and so does not know how they can still be Under 23.

`“Some players in this present Black Meteors squad played in the CHAN 2009 tournament.”

I left Ghana in 2008 some of the players I saw today were part of that CHAN team, so how are they 23 years now or less?”

It looks like its just sour grapes though, as checks show none of the 2009 CHAN squad are in this current Meteors setup.
