NPP’s Troubles Are Spiritual And Should Be Left To The Lord: Says NPP Women’s Organiser Otiko Djaba

If you thought you knew what was wrong with the NPP, that they’re handling a purely internal matter with a very juvenile style, and that resorting to senseless violence to solve a political issue is a pretty stupid thing to do- then prepare to be proven wrong.

National Women’s Organiser of the party Otiko Djaba, believes what’s plaguing them is a ‘spiritual bomb’. Speaking on Citi FM, she said their enemies are at the centre of the problem, and that a ‘demon of confusion’ is leading to all their troubles.

“We [NPP members] must learn to forgive each other, we must understand that this is a spiritual bomb, there are enemies all around us infiltrating our rights, the demon of confusion is here.

Top FIFA Officials Arrested On Corruption And Racketeering Charges

FIFA14 senior officials of World Football’s governing body have been arrested by Swiss officials and extradited to the United States as a major corruption investigation yields fruit.

They’re alleged to have accepted kickbacks and bribes in regards to their work at FIFA, totalling $150m over an astonishing 24 year period, according to the BBC.

The officials are incredibly high ranking, with a former vice president and several regional heads. Unsurprisingly, FIFA President Sepp Blatter , who’s fought more corruption allegations than anyone else on this planet, was not part of the sting.

Officials conducted an early morning raid on a five star hotel in Zurich, arresting 7 of those charged. All fourteen officials would be tried in US courts.

CHRIS-VINCENT: Rule of Law; A Bag of Garbage in Ghana

Rule of Law
Rule of Law

From BrutallyUncensored.Com

I always tell my friends who for the first time are visiting Ghana this; “Ghana is like a jungle when it comes to the law—chiefly unregulated and unenforced. Someone can walk to you, slap you for free and you wouldn’t find justice anywhere.” Intimidation and ‘Bullshitting’ the law are the two main survival mechanisms writes Chris-Vincent on BrutallyUncensored.Com.

The above may be a simple illustration of a bigger problem which Ghana has as a country, well practiced by the citizens and even the many law enforcement agencies, but it’s a good picture of the sort of society we live in out there.

When such low and high level of lawlessness backed by corruption and a rule by the affluent is the order of the day—those who can never find justice and to some extent become daily punching bags are those with no money, no connections and cannot place a phone call to any ‘big man’.

The fountainhead of justice is the principle of the rule of law; mainly, equality before the law and the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. Perhaps, Sir Ivor Jennings was talking about Ghana when he said; A.V Dicey’s call for equality before the law only meant that among equals, there should be equality. When it comes to “innocent until proven guilty,” it’s rather “guilty until proven innocent” in Ghana, unofficially backed by the law and many years of societal mindset.

The problem of increasing mob justice in the country rests on the misconception; “guilty until proven innocent” and the fact that many do not hold faith in the law due the ease at which the poles can be moved with money and connections.

Over the weekend, a young journalist working with GhanaCelebrities.Com (where I serve as the founding Editor) was arrested and detained for ‘no apparent’ wrong doing or reasonable suspicion and all attempts to reason with the police failed.

Paul Afoko
Paul Afoko

The trial for the alleged murderers of the late Upper East NPP chairman Adams Mahama commenced yesterday with Paul Afoko’s younger brother Gregory Afoko the main suspect.

Gregory was charged with murder, with the prosecution alleging that he and one Asabke Alanbi were the two people who poured the acid on Mr Mahama that led to his untimely death.

The defence requested bail but the trial judge ruled that murder is a non-bail able offence and remanded Gregory into custody.

The second defendant is said to be on the run, as police say he’s fled his Upper East residence with his wife, the two leaving their baby behind. A gallon of acid was found at the scene.

The autopsy of the deceased revealed he died of excessive acid burns and shock lungs. The trial judge adjourned the case till June 9 to allow police to conclude their investigations.
