Perhaps We Are Plain Stupid As Ghanaians | ‘Pray For Accra’ Social Media Campaign Starts

Pray for Accra
Pray for Accra

This is why I say we can’t think beyond our noses as Ghanaians. On 12 May 2015, in HD quality, GhanaCelebrities.Com published over 30 photos showing how CHOKED the gutters in Accra are—and asked that something should be done about it— what did any ordinary Ghanaian or leader do about it?

Nothing, the heaping continued…

This is a link to that article, just look at the gutters in Accra and tell me if these things can serve as gutters; http://www.ghanacelebrities.com/2015/05/12/in-photos-all-round-filthy-gutters-in-the-capital-why-accra-still-records-the-highest-cases-of-cholera-in-ghana-in-this-21st-century/

And then it rains a little heavily, the gutters over flow and over 200 people die as a result of the flood which also caused the filling station fire…

Petition Launched To Fight For The Revocation Of Caitlyn Jenner’s Olympic Gold Medal

Caitlyn Jenner
Caitlyn Jenner

Caitlyn Jenner has been having a roller coaster ride ever since her transition, but the lady formerly known as Bruce is not rid of the baggage associated with him just yet.

A petition on website change.org is calling for Bruce’s Olympic gold medal, which he won in the decathlon in the 1976 Olympic Games.

The petition says that as she competed as a man, and since she says she’s always identified as a woman, she broke the rules of Olympic regulations, and must therefore relinquish that medal since although anatomically a man then, she was essentially a woman.

It’s ridiculous; of course, because I don’t see how believing you’re a woman actually makes you a woman when you’re still biologically a man. But the petition has garnered some support already, with almost 12,000 petitioners as at this time.

VIDEO: 34-Year-Old Ghanaian Blinded By Accra’s Goil Fire/Flood Accident Speaks | Disappointed With Peace Fm Though!

Blind man

The below is heartbreaking…

A young man tells a story of how he escaped death yesterday during the Accra Goil-flood-blast only to find out that he has lost his sight—he has gone blind. It is not known if he is suffering from temporal or permanent blindness as a result of what happened.

Even though I commend Peace Fm for granting this young man audience and allowing him to use their airwaves to appeal for help, I think they should have rushed him to the hospital, immediately he came to their offices.

And later, they could have interviewed him or make the appeal for help on his behalf or from his hospital bed. It seems a little out of place for whatever reason to sit this man down for an interview.

I don’t want to say the station is desperate for ratings since it is already the most listened to radio station in the capital. But it’s inhumane to do this…

Dating As A Single Parent: Protecting Your Children’s Interest and From Predators

Mother and daughter
Mother and daughter

The rate at which single parents (especially women) are turning a blind eye to abuse being meted out to their children is very alarming. Their teenage daughters are raped and helpless children violently abused and sometimes killed by so-called partners.

A woman was jailed for killing her child because ‘her boyfriend was ready to marry her but he said her child is his problem’. This clearly is a woman who put marriage first before the welfare of her child. If a child is a problem for any man/woman who wants a relationship with you, let them go because the child won’t just disappear like a boil or pimple.

Sometimes, in a quest by single parents to find father and mother figures for their children, they end up taking one step forward and 3 steps back. They allow their partners to negatively influence their relationships with the children. It’s very easy to start dating or have relationships when you’re single but it’s not easy when there are kids involved.

President Mahama Promises Drastic Measures To Prevent Future Floods…Oh Yeah!

President Mahama_opt
President Mahama

We are in a very serious period and dealing with serious, life and death issues; but frankly I have to laugh at this clueless man.

We all predicted this, and lo and behold there they come to come and tell us stories. I find it amusing that they think we buy the rhetoric and manufactured concern. The John Mahama I saw on the television looked very much like a man in mourning; but that can only be described as genuine if anyone in his government had made any effort to fight what at this point has been established beyond reason as a yearly occurrence.

Instead nobody did or said anything, is it not strange that the meteorological service could not even give a warning about impending heavy rains? So we’re a failure on all levels, which some empty words which would come to be repeated again next year would do nothing to change.

Anyway, these are excerpts of what the President said.

The Greatest Irony: Africa’s Best Mayor’s City Flooded Again | Killing Over 150 People

Mayor of Accra Billboard
Mayor of Accra Billboard

When I say I do not regard any award scheme in Africa, especially Ghana, people jump to attack me—but what is the point in receiving awards for the widespread patchiness such as this; Best Mayor of Africa award.

A few weeks ago, the Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive, Alfred Oko Vanderpuije (Mayor of Accra) was awarded in far away Angola as the ‘Best Mayor of Africa’ and on his return to Ghana, a giant billboard (above) was mounted to welcome him—I assume, using the taxpayers’ money.

Forget the billboard, we are talking about a country where billboards are mounted indiscriminately with the recent I saw belonging to someone selling ‘MAGIC’.

Yesterday, it rained a little heavily in Accra and each year around the same time of the year, this happens—with the same consequence; unimaginable flood killing several people and destroying millions of properties.

This is a third world country where people struggle to buy a mere television—with a single night of rain destroying every electrical appliance people have worked hard for many years to own.

The main problem of the continuous yearly flooding is the poor drainage system—the city has no gutters and don’t tell me those potholes out there choked with garbage are gutters. If you want to see what is regarded as gutters in Ghana, CLICK HERE for our recent coverage.

Are Our Leaders Just Sadists? | I Promised Myself Never to Talk About Floods in Accra Again

Accra Flood
Accra Flood

Editors Note: This article was submitted last night, so take note of the relevant time and day details.

There are good days in Ghana but all the good days you can think come to nothing in times like this. Accra is experiencing floods of epic proportions and the unfortunate news is that it is highly likely we are going to see more rain this week. I promised myself I was never going to talk about floods in Accra; I really abused myself in order not to write this but it will come out anyway.

To start with Accra has no business experiencing floods of this magnitude. Two hours of slight rain (mind you I said slight rain not torrential rain) is just enough to flood Accra, so you can imagine what torrential rain will do.

I really pray no government official in the coming days will compare Accra to other parts of the world getting flooded because the basic education for such an oaf is that most parts of South, South East Asia, South and Central America experience this climate. The monsoon climate is characterized by massive rain, not even close to what we see here. However you rarely hear of one country experiencing floods every year at the same time of the year. Countries that experience this kind of torrential rain for days, plan their cities in order to allow rain to flow easily into the sea by using gutters, canals and so on.

MUST READ: A Case Study Of The Mass Stupidity Of Those In Charge In Ghana | A True Account…

Accra Flood
Accra Flood

There’s a lot of tragedy to go around this morning, terrible news that should make any Ghanaian weak at the knees. And we have to mourn, indeed, but most of all we have to call out our leaders who have massively failed us and have led us down this path.

Because we classify the huge rainy season in Ghana as June/July, today is fourth June. Imagine if the pattern of most years would follow; that means the devastation we would have to deal with by the end of July would be unimaginable- so let’s all rather hope it does not follow.

But I digress, despite everything that has happened, the fire, floods, that all illustrate what we know most about the lethargy of so-called leaders in Ghana, it is my own little experience last night I would take to illustrate my point.

Now Labadi did not flood to a 10th of the degree as most flood prone areas, but where the flooding occurred is what concisely illustrated our march as a people towards certain doom.

By an incredible twist of fate I’ll not go into, I did not use my normal route to the house last night. I rather found myself at 37, and took that road that runs by Burma Camp and then Palm Wine to T-Junction before joining the main Teshie Nungua to Accra road. Those familiar with Accra geography would easily know this road.

They’ll also know that quite recently a huge renovation was carried out to expand the road, from T-Junction all the way to the Burma Camp area. It’s virtually a new road, and I remember the amount of demolition of nearby structures they had to do to get a wide enough space to construct the dual road they wanted.

Fire At GOIL Filling Station At Circle Kills Over 100 People

The capital was hit by torrential rain yesterday that has led to flooding of many households, yet the worst disaster was not even the rain. Fire engulfed a GOIL filling station at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle last night, spreading to adjoining buildings and leading to the deaths of over 100 Ghanaians. Most of the victims … Read more
