The Ministry of Health has announced that plans to hold Ebola vaccine trials in the Volta region has been suspended due to the public consternation it was causing.

The Food and Drugs Authority recently announced that they have given the all clear for Ebola trials to be held in the country. This caused a lot of public outcry, because no one, and rightfully so, could see what use such trials would be to us.

Earlier today, the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Health Service announced that the trials have been suspended. Speaking on Peace FM, he said they have realised the public is not ready for such a trial and hence they have put a stop to it.

He also admitted that the Ministry failed to do enough public education prior to the news coming out of the intended trial, which would have led to more psychological preparedness on the part of Ghanaians.

In conclusion, he said the trials have been suspended for now, and that a decision on whether to proceed or not would be taken upon the return of the Health Minister, who’s currently out of town.
