Because our gullible and credulous selves love to treat this men of God like they’re royalty, it doesn’t take long for them to start believing they actually are.
And irrespective of how many crazy things they do to prove how human they are, we keep worshipping them.
Bonegas is one of those pastors whose work is so obviously fake you wonder how anyone buys into it. He is kind of the T.B Joshua of Ghana, complete with the continuous choreography of ‘miracles’ and unbridled hubris.
The police claim they’re investigating him for unauthorised use of a police dispatch rider as a personal bodyguard.
Due to the recent video showing some uneducated idiots bragging about paying off a police man to escort them through traffic, the Ghana Police Service are doing a sort of tour du force to show us they’re fighting the canker.
Aside Bonegas, they said they have noticed the trend amongst other influential people, notably religious leaders, businessmen, and others using policemen as bodyguards and escorts without any official authorisation. Well, welcome to Ghana.
Bonegas, however, told the Daily Graphic he doesn’t use the said police officer as a bodyguard, just that he’s a member of his church who’s very close to him.
“I have never used him as a bodyguard or guard at the church. He is an usher of the church, together with some other police and military men. He has been a
member of the church for more than three years.
“I have three personal bodyguards who travel with me anywhere and are also with me at church service.
“According to him, the said police officer was like his adopted son and the relationship between them was to
the extent that Lance Corporal Mensah had named one of his children after him.
“Because we are very close, he sometimes comes to my house.
“I have never paid him to work as a bodyguard. He has never travelled with me anywhere as a bodyguard,” he said.
But the Lance Corporal has been observed going to church in uniform, so one would wonder why anyone would do that.
I don’t expect anything concrete to come out of this, but it’d be nice to see one of these arrogant prices brought to their knees for once.
