The Chibok girls were the over 200 girls captured at a school in Chibok that sparked the worldwide #BringBackOurGirls campaign.
It’s been over a year and very little has been heard about them, despite the Nigerian army freeing many similar abductees. However, a fresh report from the Associated Press indicates Boko Haram is planning to release the girls in a trade for some of their captured operatives.
According to the report, a human rights activist involved in negotiations between the group and the Federal Government revealed that offer is on the table now. He also said the recent spate of violence in Nigeria is an attempt to force the hand of the government to take the deal.
If such a deal is really on the table I say ‘go for it’. Those girls have suffered enough and Boko Haram is causing significant carnage with or without those operatives. What has to be done is for those barbarians to be rooted out and executed once and for all.
