Residents In Kumasi Angry Over Unstable Power Supply

After all the promises by Ghana’s President, the long talks by politicians and the #Dumsormuststopvigil, the power crisis in the country has seen no improvement.

Many Electricity consumers have been complaining about the worsening load shedding in the country and also the failure on the part of the Electricity Company of Ghana to stick to a time table provided for the exercise.

Residents in Asokwa, Kotei, Bomso, Ayigya, Brofoyedu among other towns in the Asanti Region have not been spared from the ‘dumsor canker’ and have been experiencing unstable power supply for the weeks.

According to Myjoyonline, business owners have to stay up late into the night in order to finish orders made by their customers.

“I don’t know the exact time the lights will come on, sometimes it comes in the morning but stays on for only two or three hours, at other times it goes off the whole day,” a local fashion designer at Kotei, Halleluiah told the website.

“We have a generator set but honestly speaking, it is also another thing. If you calculate the money you use for the fuel and the cost it seems like you’re just satisfying the customers and not getting anything out of it. It is really bad,” he added.

Consumers have call on ECG to explain the causes leading to the erratic power supply; and the company is yet to provide any answers on that.

It seems Ghana is stuck with this problem…

  1. so a jamaican work colleague of mine returned from Ghana 2 days ago after attending her partners mom’s funeral.. first thing I asked when she came in today was what was the electricity issue like there and she looks at me stunned and asks “does Ghana have electricity?” peak days
