A gunman opened fire on two US military installations late on Thursday, going on a rampage that left four US Marines dead.
Mohammed Youssuf Abdulazeez was carrying 30-round magazines for his Ak-47 when he opened fire on his first target, a military recruitment centre in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He rained bullets on the building’s glass doors, before speeding off to his next target, a Naval Reserve Centre.
There, he rammed a gate whilst shooting indiscriminately. His high stock of ammunition meant he was able to keep the police at bay for a while, but he was eventually killed.
He was however able to hit several people with his fire, killing four US Marines at the naval centre, and injuring three others, including a sailor said to be in critical condition.
Authorities are classifying it a terrorist act, with Mohammed’s background lending credence to radical Islamist motives. However not much has been discovered as at this time.
