Student riots like these are becoming the norm so much so that alarm bells ought to start ringing.

The T.I Ahmadiaya Senior High School in the Northern Region has had to be shut down after student riots led to clashes with police, during which one person got killed by a stray bullet.

The students got agitated after a directive from authorities that students have to wear sandals rather than shoes to the examination hall. This insane request led to protests by the students, but it somehow deteriorated into a full blown riot that required police presence.

And Ghana police, being the elite force that they are, somehow managed to shoot an innocent by-stander to death.

As we often hear in such cases, it was a warning shot gone awry that killed this innocent man. Identified as one Francis Togbedu, he had gone to the Salaga Farmers Co-operative Credit Union which is situated just around the school to withdraw money when he was shot.

The police also apparently handled the situation quite badly, leading to so many students getting injured and needing treatment at the hospital.

These kind of incidents are getting out of hand. Remember this is not the first incident involving a senior high school riots leading to unfortunate deaths, and the police somehow bungle it up whenever they arrive at the scene. So much so that at this point handling your problems on your own might probably earn you a better result than getting the police involved.

When you approach that point as a nation, you know you’re really in big trouble
