‘Wulomei’ Of The Ga State Hold Rituals To Chase Off Ghosts Of The June 3 Disaster Victims Which Apparently Are Terrorising Residents Of The Circle Area

It was only a matter of time before this happened, because there is nothing the Ghanaian likes engaging in more than silly superstition and suppositions.

I remember after the May 9 stadium disaster in 2001, similar stories went around and a similar event had to be held. I remember listening spellbound to those stories, as a wild eyed eleven year old and feeling very fascinated by how an experience with a ghost might be. (I should probably have been feeling dread, but then I’ve never been wired the right way)

Many years later and I can now listen quite detached from all the superstitious bull we love engaging in. The traditionalists have no choice but to do this, as that is the path they have chosen, but I tell you some Christians who probably scoff at the old gods at every chance they get are probably relieved this ritual is being carried out. After all in this Christian majority nation, who do you think made the complaints of hearing ghosts? The 1% of the population who still follow the old ways?

Anyway, Wolumei of the Ga Traditional Area today carried out rituals at the site of the tragic June 3 disaster. Apparently some residents had claimed they had been hearing screams and strange noises in the area in the area at night, and called for the place to be cleansed.

So the Wulomei obliged, carrying out the necessary rituals, whether to pacify the ghosts or drive them away nobody knows. I presume after tonight nobody would be hearing ghost noises in their sleep again.

It is a strange nation we run here in Ghana.
