My first reaction on hearing this was to think that people still get defrauded by fetish priests in this day and age- really?
But then I remembered we’re talking about good old Ghana, where nobody demands proof of anything and just making claims is enough. In that light it is not so surprising.
A fetish priest in Accra is in chains after he was arrested for defrauding a businessman to the tune of Ghc 2,700.
According to Starrfmonline, the businessman, Joseph Acquah, wanted a ‘favour’ from the fetish priest. He was thus asked to bring the amount as a token to the gods.
After taking the money and failing to deliver, this fetish priest decided to get a little greedier. He said the gods had rejected the initial down payment and needed Ghc 2,000 more to get their groove on.
That’s when Acquah “…got upset and demanded for my money”.
The fetish priest was arrested and arraigned before court, charged with defrauding under false pretences.
At least this guy wised up after his initial folly. Many more would have continued paying, believing that there were some gods really out there rejecting their offerings and asking for much more. I don’t have to tell you what is wrong with that mentality.
