It look as if the government of Ghana has hardly any alternatives within the current economic paradigm.

Doctors, Psychiatric Nurses, Lawyers at the office of Attorney-General have laid down their tools–and the latest to join the striking list is the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG)–and it appears that other sections of the organized labor will join in.

Members of the association have threatened not to step foot in the various lecture halls until their demands of Research and Book allowances are met.

If we may recall…UTAG embarked on a five-week strike to put the arm on the government to release their book and research allowances for 2013/2014 academic year…

Dr. Samuel Ofori Bekoe, President of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), says the government is yet to address their petition concerning their 2014/2015 book & research allowance–and that has led to their decision to once again embark on an indefinite strike.

As some of the public workers are agitating for a better working conditions…the President of Ghana says “he will not spend beyond the national budget”. Is that not an unfortunate statement from the President?

In a related development;

Members of the Ghana Medical Association who begun their strike last week, have threatened to withdraw from attending to emergency services across all public hospitals in the country.
